Nine-Fairfax merger clears ACCC checkpoint

ACCC chairman Rod Sims announced today that an extensive review of the merger documents showed no potential violations of the Competition and Consumer Act.
The review sought to address the local industry’s demand for online news, current affairs reportage, and investigative journalism, and how the merger may affect the market in light of both companies’ multi-platform reach. The assessors concluded that Nine and Fairfax’s main assets are not competing against each other, with Nine’s news and current affairs programs going for mass audience while Fairfax’s print and online media focuses on detailed content.
