Prashant Kishore's Jan Swaraj Party seems to be all set for opening its account in Bihar's legislature, currently leading in more than one constituency. Counting of votes for the crucial Bihar assembly elections began at 8am on Friday, with initial trends indicating the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is ahead in several seats, according to an NDTV report. Voting trends at 09.30am showed the NDA leading in 152 seats and the Mahagathbandhan in 117. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also crossed the 50-mark, leading in 77 seats. The Rural Journalists Association, Uttar Pradesh, has urged the state government to ensure greater representation and address the issues faced by journalists working in rural areas. In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath through Varanasi Divisional Commissioner S. Rajalingam, the association demanded the inclusion of two of its representatives in both the State Journalist Accreditation Committee and the Advertisement Accreditation Committee, Amar Ujala reported. The association also called for the formation of a Rural Journalists Commission to study and resolve challenges faced by rural journalists in news gathering and reporting. According to the association, such a commission would help create a structured mechanism to identify professional hurdles and ensure better working conditions for journalists in smaller towns and villages. Today's Australian Financial Review features a story grab on page one about Australian company DroneShield and its founder and CEO Oleg Vornik (he's the one with the rather large gun in the picture) who has unloaded all his shares in the "hot defence stock", as the AFR puts it. Along with shares offloaded by the Chairman and another director it has seen the once sizzling stock now fall by a whopping 31 per cent, writes Amelia McGuire and Jonathan Shapiro. At the time of writing, no reason has been given by Vornik for the share sell-off.   A journalist identified as Deepak Adhikari was brutally attacked by a group of goons while he was covering illegal construction work being carried out on government-owned land. According to reports, Adhikari was covering ongoing construction carried on land near a drain in the Unchapul area, Haldwani, Uttarakhand on Tuesday. His colleague was recording the video when a few miscreants grabbed Deepak by his collar and assaulted him. When he tried to resist, the attackers attempted to snatch the camera. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. It is alleged that the attack was carried out at the behest of a local builder involved in the illegal construction on the land.
