Stevens to helm APC

The Council chose him to fill the void left by David Weisbrot’s resignation in June this year amid tension arising from the appointment of deputy GetUp chair Carla McGrath to the group.
Stevens’ record includes chairmanships at several leading organisations such as the Communications Alliance, NICTA, and the NSW government’s innovation and productivity council, before retiring in 2001 as Communications, Information Technology and the Arts secretary.
“The work of the Press Council includes setting standards, handling complaints and advocating for freedom of speech and freedom of the press,” said APC co-vice-chairman John Doyle.
