The Age sports new sheen

The Age logo (photo credit: The Age website)One of Fairfax Media’s leading newspapers, The Age, has debuted a brand-new look for its website.

The new website highlights the bigger stories of the day on the home page itself, supported by a bite-sized introduction for each. A sidebar tab will show content categories, with some sections linked to associated Fairfax publications such as Good Food and Domain.  

Advertisers also have additional space to use with the site’s real estate available in various rich media formats such as 360-degree video and augmented-reality content.

The Age’s overhaul itself was developed using feedback gathered from its audience since Fairfax started the revamps at the Brisbane Times last year. The Sydney Morning Herald is the last major Fairfax newspaper to undergo the overhaul next month, said Australian Media Publishing managing director Chris Janz.

“It’s a privilege to work on bringing the next iteration of Melbourne’s iconic masthead to our readers.  We’ve been part of the Victorian conversation for 164 years and today’s relaunch of The Age shows we’re continually evolving to remain at the heart of their digital news experience,” added The Age editor Alex Lavelle.

Plummer bows out for freelance

Jennene Plummer has amicably parted ways with Bauer Media to do freelance work.

Plummer stepped down this month after a 14-year run, during which she was director for the Bauer Food Studio, which carries content platforms such as OK!, Good Health, and Woman’s Day.

Plummer is highly-regarded in the Australian food scene, having written a number of cookbooks and shares her thoughts on various food aspects.

NewsCorp introduces dining guide

Foodies now have a chance to scope out the hottest dining destinations thanks to “delicious.”, a new online guide by News Corp Australia.

Available at delicious.com.au/eat-out, the national Eat Out Guide offers information on various dining establishments across Australia. The site will also inform users on the tastiest recipes and hot events, plus over 6,000 expert and user reviews compiled from the the Food Corp network. Chefs named in any reviews will also have the room to respond to reviewers.

Herald Sun food editor Dan Stock and food critic Anooska Tucker-Evans are included as part of Eat Out’s panel of critics. Kerrie McCallum is in charge of the guide.

Elle Australia editorial team named

Elle Australia has taken the covers off its editorial lineup for 2018.

Justine Cullen is the editor-in-chief with Genevra Leek as her deputy editor. Morgan Zhang, who is an editorial co-ordinator, will be the contact person for the entire team.

Jessica Parry has signed up with Nine Network as the new associate editor of the subscription-based women’s entrepreneurship space Future Women.  

Parry joined on a contractual basis with an unspecified term of tenure. She recently finished seven years with Bauer Media Australia, where her last assignments were acting editor of Cosmopolitan and as the last editor of Myer Emporium magazine.

She made her departure known via a Tweet on 23 January 2018, but did not say where she will be next.

Ellwand takes over Mortgage Professional Australia editorship

Key Media’s Otiena Ellwand has stepped up to be Mortgage Professional Australia’s editor.

She took over the job this week after her predecessor, Sam Richardson, stepped down to return home to England. He had been with the publication for three years.

Ellwand comes over from an editorship at Key Media publication Australian Broker, where she started in March 2017.
