Premier Daniel Andrews to speak at AmCham event which will highlight mental health challenges facing the youth

Announcement posted by Image Group International 17 May 2022

AmCham will host a business lunch with the most prominent business leaders on 19 May 2022 as part of Victoria’s efforts to stimulate the economy post-COVID.

The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) has partnered up with Big Brothers Big Sisters to create a leadership council with the mission to develop dynamic youth for the future. The AmCham/BBBS Leadership Council was co-founded by Jon Michail, Group CEO of Image Group International and Mark Watt, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“Our leadership council aims to be a catalyst for new mental health resilience initiatives for young people in our community,” Michail said.

AmCham is recognised as a leading business chamber that provides high-level networking and business opportunities to Australian businesses whilst Big Brothers Big Sisters have achieved effective results in providing long-term, one-on-one mentoring to support vulnerable young people.

“Young Australians are experiencing more mental health issues than any other age group and it's time we tried new ways of dealing with the problem,” Watt said.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, almost 19% of people aged 15 to 24 had anxiety and 14% had depression in 2020-21.

The Leadership Council’s aim is for purpose-driven leaders to guide and inspire our youth via art and entertainment to take control of their lives and excel,” Michail said.

This initiative is represented by an invite-only council of leaders who sincerely care about the future and well-being of our youth and community.

“We are excited about this partnership. I truly believe we can advocate and influence thought leadership in young people suffering from mental health through this mentoring program,” Michail said.

The Leadership Council’s mission is to lead impactful youth initiative projects that celebrate independence, healthy well-being and the spirit of entrepreneurship.
