Creative Skills Retail Council Opens National Call for Industry Councils as Part of Australia-Wide Rollout
Announcement posted by Creative Skills Retail Council 06 Dec 2025
The Creative Skills Retail Council (CSRC) has opened expressions of interest for its new Industry Councils, marking the next major step in its national rollout across Australia's hair, barber and makeup professional business sector.
The Industry Councils will bring together experienced professionals, educators, salon owners, barbers, product companies, emerging leaders and community voices to help guide sector priorities as CSRC builds a modern, inclusive and purpose-driven industry association.
Melissa Kalan, Executive Director of CSRC, said the call-out represents a powerful opportunity for people across the industry to be part of creating the future.
"We are building something that genuinely gives back to the sector and the communities we serve," Ms Kalan said. "Our Industry Councils will provide a platform for collaboration, insight and leadership from people working in salons, barbershops, education, product development, technology and beyond. This is an important moment for the creative skills retail sector to come together with a collective voice."
Established as a not-for-profit professional association and social enterprise, CSRC is focused on strengthening business capability, workforce skills, sector research and driving positive social impact. The Industry Councils will play a central role in identifying priorities, informing research and data collection, highlighting workforce needs and supporting the development of our national programmes and initiatives.
"We know there is enormous passion and expertise across the hair, barber and makeup sector," Ms Kalan said. "Our aim is to harness that knowledge, bring people together and ensure the CSRC represents industry value, helps solve challenges and showcases opportunities. The Industry Councils are the foundation of that approach."
"This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new national platform from the ground up," Ms Kalan said. "We welcome people who want to add their voice, share their experience and contribute to something meaningful with long-term impact for businesses, professionals and communities."
CSRC officially launched nationally on 25 November and is progressing an Australia-wide rollout that includes state and territory councils, a sector research agenda and professional development programmes.
Expressions of interest for the Industry Councils are now open.
