Announcement posted by Greenroom Robotics 10 Dec 2025
Greenroom Robotics and EGS Survey have signed a Fleet Wide Partnership Agreement that will equip all future Fremantle-class uncrewed surface vessels with Greenroom's GAMA maritime autonomy system, accelerating the shift toward cleaner, lower impact hydrographic survey operations.

Greenroom Robotics Chief Technology Officer Zac Pullen and EGS Survey Australia Chief Surveyor Charles Collins signing the Strategic Partnership Agreement at EGS' Remote Operations Centre in Fremantle, Western Australia.
Announced during West Tech Fest, the partnership highlights the role Australian innovation is playing in reducing emissions across the maritime sector. Uncrewed vessels use a fraction of the fuel of traditional survey ships and can operate for extended periods with minimal environmental footprint, supporting global demand for sustainable ocean mapping.
Greenroom Robotics was recently named Western Australia Innovator of the Year for its GAMA autonomy software. The USV Fremantle 01 mission with EGS was recognised as a standout example of homegrown innovation achieving real-world impact, demonstrating the strength of Western Australia's emerging autonomous and clean maritime technology sector.
The agreement builds on the success of USV Fremantle 01, which recently completed a full HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program survey off Esperance WA. The 42-day mission demonstrated how advanced autonomy can deliver high-quality seabed data with significantly reduced emissions.
USV Fremantle 01 achieved:
- A 42-day offshore mission with a 94% reduction in diesel use compared to a traditional vessel
- Consistent survey-line keeping, COLREGs compliant manoeuvring and advanced predictive control
- Operating costs up to 75% lower than traditional crewed survey operations.
Only around a quarter of the world's ocean floor has been mapped to modern standards, making efficient and low-impact survey capability essential for marine conservation, offshore renewable infrastructure, coastal planning and safe navigation.
Charles Collins, Chief Surveyor at EGS Survey Australia, said the partnership will help meet growing demand for high-quality, environmentally responsible hydrographic data: "Our goal with the Fremantle-class USVs is to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality survey outcomes for our clients. Greenroom's GAMA system has been central to achieving that vision. This partnership ensures every future vessel benefits from a deeply integrated and continuously improving autonomy solution built here in Western Australia."
Greenroom Robotics co-founder and COO, Harry Hubbert, said uncrewed systems are one of the most practical pathways to decarbonising maritime survey operations: "Our mission at Greenroom is to help deliver safe, clean and protected oceans. Autonomous vessels are a practical way to reduce emissions, minimise marine disturbance and expand access to high-quality seabed data. Working with EGS allows us to scale that mission across an entire fleet built here in Western Australia."
Western Australian Government Minister for Science and Innovation Stephen Dawson said the news highlights how WA is leading the way in terms of autonomous and remotely operated innovations: "We are immensely proud of Greenroom Robotics' ground-breaking achievements, particularly their recent accolade at the WA Innovators of the Year awards. Their leadership continues to set new standards for sustainable innovation in the sector, and we look forward to seeing even greater impact from their pioneering work in the future."
Under the partnership, Greenroom Robotics will supply GAMA licences, integration and ongoing technical support across the Fremantle-class fleet. EGS Survey will use Greenroom Robotics as its preferred supplier of autonomous control and navigation software for its expanding uncrewed operations, helping deliver scalable, low-impact capability for national charting and commercial survey needs.
