Melbourne founder James Sackl releases video on how spotting the move online led to his first business

MELBOURNE, Australia, 18 August 2026 - Melbourne founder and futurist James Sackl has released a new short video explaining how an observation about businesses moving online became the starting point for his entrepreneurial career.
The 23-second video, "James Sackl - How I Started My First Business Without a Plan", presents a direct account of an entrepreneurial career that was not planned in advance.
"I didn't have a plan to become an entrepreneur. I didn't really have a plan at all," Sackl says in the description accompanying the video.
The video recalls Sackl starting university, quickly realising that it was not the right fit for him and noticing businesses and consumers gradually moving online. He responded by creating a classified website designed to help businesses reach a broader audience. The video describes it as his first business.
Sackl has previously described how, at 21, he tested a website idea before building it.
"At twenty-one I walked the streets of Melbourne selling advertising space on a website that did not exist. I collected payment upfront. Then I built the website," Sackl said.
The story focuses on observation and customer evidence rather than certainty. Sackl identified a change in behaviour, found businesses willing to pay for access to the new online audience and used that commitment as the signal to build.
Sackl now builds Wallace Biotechnologies and Terraform Technologies. He also writes, podcasts and produces video under the Golden Age banner.
