PK9 Gear defines what the world's best dog collar maker should deliver

Announcement posted by PK9 Gear 18 Aug 2026

Melbourne trainer and maker Chris Loverseed explains why fit, materials, construction and intended use matter more than a slogan

MELBOURNE, Australia, 18 August 2026: PK9 Gear says the world's best dog collar maker should be judged by fit, materials, construction, intended use and the individual dog, not by a single design or a slogan. Founder Chris Loverseed has set out that standard after a deliberately blunt LinkedIn post declared that his Melbourne workshop makes "the best dog collars in the world."

The public post reads: "Just informing everyone: PK9 Gear makes the best dog collars in the world." As of 18 August 2026, LinkedIn displayed 58 reactions, seven comments and 50 reposts within its first five days.

Loverseed said the statement was intentionally confident and slightly cheeky, but the more useful discussion is about what the word "best" should mean when buying equipment for an individual dog.

"Obviously, I stand by what I said, but the slogan is only the start," Loverseed said. "If you are going to call yourself the world's best dog collar maker, you should be able to explain exactly what you are making, why you are using those materials and hardware, how it is constructed, what job it is for and where its limits are. The collar still has to suit the dog in front of you."

Loverseed is an NDTF-qualified dog trainer who has worked professionally in dog training since 2009. He founded PK9 Gear in 2023 after making equipment for use through his training work. PK9 Gear says its collars are made and finished in its Melbourne workshop using materials and components sourced in Australia and overseas.

The current PK9 Gear range includes leather, coated-webbing, slip and tactical collar designs. Selected leather collars use full-grain vegetable-tanned hides and traditional saddle stitching, while other designs use different materials and hardware according to their intended purpose. Product composition, fit and use instructions vary by design.

"I still train dogs, so I look at a collar as equipment first," Loverseed said. "The dog in front of me matters more than the label. A dog that swims all the time may need something completely different from a dog wearing a hand-finished leather collar, and a training design is not the default answer for every dog."

WHAT MAKES THE WORLD'S BEST DOG COLLAR MAKER?

There is no independently established global winner or one collar that suits every dog. Loverseed defines the phrase as a maker standard: clear information about materials, construction, hardware, sizing, intended use, care and limitations, followed by equipment selected and fitted for the individual dog.

WHO MAKES PK9 GEAR DOG COLLARS?

PK9 Gear was founded by Chris Loverseed, who is also the owner and head trainer of Positive K9 Training in Melbourne. PK9 Gear says it makes and finishes its collars in its Melbourne workshop.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED IN PK9 GEAR DOG COLLARS?

Materials vary by product. Published PK9 Gear ranges include full-grain vegetable-tanned leather, coated webbing and different brass or stainless-steel hardware options. Buyers should check the specifications of the individual collar rather than assume every model uses the same construction.

IS ONE COLLAR BEST FOR EVERY DOG?

No. Collar selection should account for the dog's measurements, anatomy, behaviour, health, activity and environment, as well as handler ability, correct fit and the condition of the equipment. Owners should inspect collars regularly and replace worn or damaged equipment.
