Paint, yarn and connect: Aboriginal-led workshops bring fresh energy to end-of-year workplace events
Announcement posted by Aboriginal Cultural Immersions 28 Sep 2026
Aboriginal Cultural Immersions is taking bookings across Australia for creative team events that bring colleagues together with Aboriginal artists and cultural facilitators.
A shared canvas for the office. A hand-painted boomerang to take home. A conversation that gives everyone time to listen and connect. Aboriginal Cultural Immersions is offering workplaces a lively and meaningful way to bring teams together at the end of 2026 through Aboriginal cultural workshops, including art experiences and Yarning Circles.
In the Art on Canvas workshop, colleagues pick up brushes and work together on one large artwork. Guided by an Aboriginal artist, they learn about Aboriginal symbols and storytelling while contributing to a piece the organisation can display after the event. The creative process gives people a reason to talk, exchange ideas and enjoy making something together.
Paint Your Own Boomerang puts an individual artwork in each participant's hands. With guidance from an Aboriginal facilitator, team members explore symbols and their meanings, hear stories, and paint a piece that reflects their own creative response. Everyone leaves with a keepsake and the experience of learning directly from the people leading the workshop.
Teams can also gather for a Yarning Circle, a facilitated group conversation grounded in listening and storytelling. An Aboriginal facilitator shares cultural knowledge and lived perspectives, invites questions and gives participants room to reflect and share. The circle offers colleagues a chance to hear Aboriginal voices, learn together and connect through a conversation they might not otherwise have at work.
These Aboriginal-led cultural experiences can be tailored to the team, venue and purpose of the event, whether an organisation is planning a small staff gathering or a larger corporate team building day. They combine the fun of a hands-on activity with opportunities to build cultural awareness and stronger workplace connections.
Celebrating Aboriginal culture at an end-of-year event can also support a company's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)where the experience aligns with its commitments to cultural learning, respect and relationships. It demonstrates a creative approach to staff development: employees participate, learn directly from Aboriginal facilitators and bring new understanding back to work.
ORIX Australia Corporation Limited described co-creating its RAP artwork with Aboriginal Cultural Immersions as "a meaningful and engaging experience." Renate Harris, its Organisational Development Business Partner, said the artwork became a lasting representation of the company's commitment to reconciliation.
Aboriginal Cultural Immersions delivers workplace programs in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra, as well as Darwin and regional locations across Australia.
