[PRESS RELEASE] Agronomists across New South Wales to upskill their soil carbon knowledge with SoilCQuest workshops, backed by $1.76 million NSW Government grant

NARRABRI NSW, 28 September 2026. 

Agronomists and rural retail advisors are invited to a free soil carbon workshop at the University of Sydney's Plant Breeding Institute in Narrabri on Thursday 15 October, from 12:00pm to 2:15pm.

Presented for agronomists by agronomists, with keynote speakers Guy Webb and Dr Adam O'Toole, the workshop is offered by not-for-profit research institute SoilCQuest, in partnership with Outlook Ag, an independent agronomy consulting business. The day will explore how soil carbon improves soil moisture, nutrient availability, and farm income. It will also cover practical management for cropping and grazing systems, new multi-season strip trial results and how ACCU Soil Carbon Projects work.

The Narrabri event is part of a series of eight workshops being hosted for agronomists across NSW by major agribusinesses that share a belief in the value of this knowledge. The series is supported by a $1.76 million NSW Government High Impact Partnership grant awarded to SoilCQuest in June, with co-investment from Loam Bio.

"The tide is turning on soil carbon," SoilCQuest founder and workshop presenter Guy Webb said. "Agronomists, governments and growers are all recognising what it can do for productivity, resilience, and farm income. The fact that leading agribusinesses are hosting these workshops shows how far the conversation has come."

Fellow presenter and SoilCQuest head of research Dr Adam O'Toole said agronomists were central in putting the science to work.

"Agronomists solve their clients' toughest problems every day, but soil carbon can often be the tool missing from the kit," he said. "The science shows it addresses core agronomic issues, and most farms have the potential to build it. We want agronomists walking out with practical actions, backed by solid evidence."
