15 October 2026: The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers is proud to launch a new Micro-credentialing Program designed to strengthen the practical capability, confidence and workplace readiness of Queensland's emerging and existing bookkeeping workforce.
The program responds to a challenge familiar to employers, practitioners and educators alike: technical knowledge and formal qualifications are important, but successfully applying that knowledge in today's digital-first, AI-enabled workplace requires deeper layers of capability.
Amanda Linton, CEO at The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers says: "As we look for the next generation of professional bookkeepers in Australia, it's important that we focus on supporting them with the tools, resources and training that are fit for purpose in this technological world in which they live and work. The future of our profession depends on it. Filling the capability gaps whilst supporting the Accredited Training providers, the expectations of employers, learners and small business owners of today, is the foundation purpose behind this program."
Bookkeepers today operate at the heart of Australian small business. Their role extends well beyond transaction processing as they work with business owners, accountants, payroll teams, software platforms, regulators and employees. They need to be commercially minded, understand compliance, demonstrate professional judgement, and be cyber-aware and digitally literate.
The Micro-credentialing Program has been developed to help bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical execution.
Dale Dixon, General Manager Practice and Partner Advisory - MYOB says: "ICB's industry-led pathway recognises that completing a qualification is an important foundation, but practical experience, professional judgement and workplace readiness are what help people enter the profession with confidence. By connecting technical knowledge with real-world workflows, ethical responsibilities and emerging capabilities such as AI, automation and cyber security, the program will equip Queensland learners for the realities of modern bookkeeping. MYOB is proud to support ICB's work to strengthen professional pathways and future-proof the bookkeeping profession, helping bookkeepers deliver trusted advice to the small businesses they serve."
The program is designed to support a diverse range of Queensland learners, including people entering the profession, graduates looking to strengthen their workplace readiness, people returning to the workforce and existing bookkeeping professionals seeking to build or refresh their capability and stand out against their peers. As Linton says: "ICB is committed to the ongoing and future development of the bookkeeping profession in Australia. The Workforce Transition Pathway Program is a fundamental piece of work enabling us to do just this."
Proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government, the initiative also creates an opportunity for stronger collaboration between government, industry, employers, professional associations and the vocational education sector.
Investing in confident, capable and workplace-ready bookkeepers does not just benefit the profession alone. It benefits Queensland's community of small and medium businesses that rely on bookkeepers every day, supporting them to grow and developing them to thrive.
Nicole Wilson, Acting General Manager, TAFE Queensland Brisbane says "TAFE Queensland is committed to working closely with industry partners to ensure our training remains relevant, responsive and aligned to evolving workforce needs to deliver measurable outcomes for local communities. Through collaborations such as the Workforce Transition Bookkeeper Pathway, TAFE Queensland continues to create opportunities for graduates to build real-world capability, enhance their employability, and access clear pathways into meaningful careers to help secure the long-term prosperity of Queensland's industries. By combining quality vocational education with industry engagement and targeted micro-credentials, we help learners develop the skills, confidence and professional connections needed to succeed in a changing workforce and contribute to Queensland's future economic growth."
