Announcement posted by Pengana Capital Group 20 Oct 2026
Pengana Private Equity Trust (ASX: PE1) has announced an increase in its target annual cash distribution yield from 4% to at least 6% of net asset value (NAV), with payments moving from semi-annual to quarterly.
The Trust is targeting a distribution of 3% of NAV in December 2026, followed by quarterly distributions of at least 1.5% of NAV through to at least June 2028.
The changes reflect the increasing maturity of PE1's global private equity portfolio, with a growing number of underlying investments realising value and returning cash to the Trust.
Adam Myers, Executive Director at Pengana Capital Group, said the portfolio had progressed significantly since PE1 listed in 2019.
"Over the past seven years, we've built a diversified global portfolio with exposure to more than 600 underlying companies. We're now seeing an increasing number of those investments being realised and returning cash to the Trust.
"SpaceX is a particularly significant example, having generated substantial gains for PE1, with shares are now being progressively realised at average prices above its IPO price.
"Our objective is to return more cash to investors as the portfolio matures, while maintaining a well invested portfolio focused on long-term capital growth."
Updated investment framework and return objectives
Alongside the increased distributions, PE1 has updated its investment framework to better reflect the maturity of the portfolio and the evolution of private equity markets.
This includes an updated investment objective with a NAV return target of 10-14% per annum, after all fees and costs, assessed over a full investment cycle of at least 10 years.
The Trust also intends to primarily focus on direct investments and co-investments, although it will continue to invest opportunistically in primary funds and secondary transactions where the prospective return profile is compelling.
"Having established a highly diversified portfolio, we feel co-investments and direct investments offer greater potential for investment selectivity and fee efficiency", Myers said.
PE1 has also refined its capital management approach. On-market buybacks will remain available but will be undertaken opportunistically, taking account of the prevailing discount to NAV, liquidity requirements and investment opportunities.
PE1 generated a NAV return of 17.3% over the 12 months to 30 September 2026 and 9.9% per annum since inception in April 2019.
