The Adelaide Thunderbirds are
excited and proud to announce the launch of their inaugural Ambassadors Program,
as part of their revolutionary community initiative for 2012.
The Adelaide Thunderbirds
Ambassadors Program is a collection of Adelaide media, political and sporting
identities, with Chris Dittmar, Troy Gray, Jodie Oddy, Mark Soderstrom, Bernie
Vince and Michael Wright all representing in pink this year. While they do hail
from different backgrounds, they do have one thing in common, and that is
absolute admiration and respect for the sport of netball and those who play it.
“I can’t wait to see the girls in
action,” says Jodie Oddy who has been chatting to the girls weekly on the Mix
102.3 Breakfast Show, “I know just how hard they have been training - sometimes
I can hardly believe what they’ve been up to! I’m extremely excited to be an
Ambassador for 2012.”
Asked about his feelings on his
pink guernsey, Troy Gray was thoughtful, “Must be my defensive skills - I do
play a mean Wing Defence,” he jokes, “Probably not as well as Sharni Layton
though, so I’ll leave the on-court stuff to the professionals!”
The Ambassadors Program is a new
initiative by the Thunderbirds, who are hungry for a finals berth after
finishing 6th last year. The trial match in Bendigo against the
Melbourne Vixens last Saturday, 24 March, proves just how eager they are for
success this season as the team clawed its way back from a 14 goal deficit at
half time to win 49-46. With a new look leadership group, exceptional fitness
levels and Nat Von Bertouch and Renae Hallinan returning from injury, the
Thunderbirds are absolutely bursting for Round 1 on March 31.
“It’s the first program of its kind
for the Thunderbirds,” says Clare Harris, Adelaide Thunderbirds Commercial
& Marketing Operations Manager. “We pride ourselves as being leaders in our
field and exploring new ways to promote our exceptional brand of netball, on
court and off. We are wholeheartedly aiming to emulate our success from 2010
and we feel having an Ambassadors Program will certainly contribute to this.”
