Beesting Communications, publishers of Curve, the quarterly magazine showcasing the best in industrial design has partnered with Ita Buttrose- chaired Reddo Media to launch Curve for iPad, available for download from the App Store today.
The new digital magazine is the first in the world to use the Direct Entitlement feature of the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite integrated directly with Salesforce.
“Curve for iPdad demonstrates that small Australian publishers can create exciting new products for the global market. It also shows that sophisticated subscriber systems to back them are not beyond reach,” Ms Buttrose said. “With the right model, a tablet magazine can reach new paying readers while also serving as an enticing value add for existing subscribers.”
“Our readers are technically savvyand a large percentage of them are iPad users. Curvefor iPad will give us international exposure for the magazine, particularly in the United States,” said Belinda Stening, Director of Beesting Communications, publisher of the magazine. “Readers can now drill deeper into the content and interact with images and objects. Curve readers love the 3D world, so they appreciate being able to get closer to our 3D content.”
Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Direct Entitlement allows the app to identify existing subscribers and supply specific content. For example, print subscriberswill need only to log into the app to access and download the corresponding digital editions for free. New readers can choose whether to purchase an individual issue or subscribe through a range of plans from within the app. All subscribers, print or digital, only ever receive the issues for which they’ve already paid.
“The Direct Entitlement-Salesforce integration means we can control how we sell and fulfil our subscriptions to Curve for iPad. We can bundle subscriptions securely and efficiently to include print editions and online archive access. This gives our subscribers more value for money while simultaneously increasing our ability to charge for digital content,” Ms Stening explained.
“Adobe is excited to work with Reddo Media to create the right solution for Curve readers,” says Benny Sriphet, Head of Digital Publishing,APAC at Adobe. “More and more consumers want a personalised experience when they read their favourite publications. We also know they want to read their favourite publications at any time, on their favourite device. Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite allows publishers to tailor their online content specifically for their readers.”
Beesting collaborated with Reddo Media who designed and developed the digital magazine, and provisioned the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Direct Entitlement features needed for the publisher’s subscription database. Melbourne-based cloud services company Zymosys developed Beesting’s multicurrency subscription service using the Salesforce.com CRM platform as the underlying technology and integrated it with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Direct Entitlement.
Curve for iPad comes with a free sample edition of the magazine so new readers can experience the interactive content and explore the digital features before subscribing. Curve for iPad has been released to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the magazine’s 40th issue.
