HUNDREDS OF SYDNEY-SIDERS TACKLE GRUELING CHALLENGE

Announcement posted by Magnum PR 06 Dec 2012

Sydney-siders went head-to-head in the ultimate test of physical strength and endurance this morning – tackling 300 consecutive burpees, for the Australian launch of the world’s toughest and most competitive obstacle race series, Spartan Race.

Led by Australia’s toughest trainer, ‘Commando Steve’ at Customs House in Sydney, the determined packbattled through the synchronised exercise as challengers were knocked out one-by-one for failing to maintain form or keep up with the pack.

“The burpee challenge this morning was one of the harshest, most-grueling physical challenges I’ve ever been a part of,” said Commando Steve. “I was impressed there were so many people willing to get up and give it a go even though many of them must have known it was nearly impossible to complete.”

The 130 strong contingent was made up of Sydney’s most athletic individuals including Australia’s leading obstacle racer, Matt Murphy, returning soldiers,cross-fit enthusiasts andadrenalin junkies.  Only 18 challengers managed to cross the finish line, after 38 minutes of constant and grueling physical activity.

“We were surprised we had so many people who were able to finish,” said Spartan Race Australia MD Max DeLacy.  “But if they thought that was tough, I can’t wait to show them what we have planned for the actual Spartan Race next year.”

The challenge also raised awareness for Soldier On; Australia’s only foundation that directly supports the nation’s defence members who have been wounded whilst on active duty.
