Major dairy manufacturer selects ATechnology for specialised cloud solution

Announcement posted by ATechnology 01 Aug 2013

Brisbane, Australia, 1 August, 2013 – ATechnology, a leading technology company and hosting provider, today announced it has been selected by a major dairy manufacturer in Australia to develop a specialised cloud solution.

The manufacturer of milk, yoghurt and fresh dairy products has selected ATechnology to create a hosted solution to extend its existing environment within the iseek Communications data centres. The cloud solution will provide the manufacturer with a highly secure platform which can rapidly scale to meet dynamic business requirements.

The company’s existing equipment will be linked via dedicated cross connects to ATechnology’s hosting at iseek’s data centres based in the Brisbane Airport precinct and Woolloongabba.

Matt Peterschlingmann, Director, ATechnology, said, “The servers will be directly linked by a cable to the dairy manufacturer’s own equipment. The direct cable – rather than using the public internet – provides a huge advantage in terms of security, and results in the manufacturer having greater control of its data and systems.”

ATechnology will work with the company to develop a highly available configuration with its data to be hosted at both data centres. So, if there is a failure at one data centre, the system will still be available from the other location.

“A hybrid cloud provides a number of advantages. Many larger organisations host their own systems within high quality data centres. By combining this with ATechnology’s cloud hosting, they can get the best of both worlds – they can make use of their existing equipment and also gain the ability to rapidly scale as required. This allows a business to quickly respond to changing business requirements,” said Mr Peterschlingmann.

Businesses with existing infrastructure within the iseek data centres are in a unique position to take further advantage of ATechnology hosting by taking an extended private cloud approach rather than connecting via the public internet. By using a dedicated cross connect, these businesses can maintain full control of their data security. They also gain a huge speed advantage as there is no latency between their own equipment and ATechnology’s hosted cloud.

“Even if an organisation has the inhouse knowledge to set up and manage additional servers themselves, it can take a lot of time and expense. Companies benefit from outsourcing to a third party cloud provider as it comes under operational expenditure (opex) rather than capital expenditure (capex).

“Cloud providers often offer access to better quality equipment that is more up to date than the company’s existing technology. They have the added benefit of expert monitoring and also have managed off site back-ups for peace of mind,” said Mr Peterschlingmann.

"ATechnology will work with the dairy manufacturer to design and deploy the cloud solution so it is highly available with no single point of failure. The applications will still be accessible to customers even if offline at one location, due to both data centres and multiple connections."
