New mobile app keeps the home fires burning for Defence Families

With members of the Australian Defence Force away for home for an average of 2 months of the year, the new Home2You App allows families to stay connected and countdown to that special reunion.
The Home2You App was designed by Defence Force families advocate Brie Backo, who is well known in the Defence Community as the creator of the Your Defence range of support materials for Defence force families, including the popular Alpha book series.
“Our goal was to create an app that allowed families to remain connected, whether they are away for a lengthy period of time on operational deployments, a short term domestic exercise or regular rotational rosters that requires time away from family, the Home2You app was designed to allow families to create special messages, memories and milestones that can be treasured during those times away,” Ms Backo said.
“Particularly for families with small children, we can see that this will be the go-to app. Bed time routine will include a special video message from Mum or Dad and a check on how many days left until they are home again” she summarized.
The Home2You app has already been well received by the Your Defence Community, with it ranking as the 3rd most popular downloaded paid lifestyle app in iTunes within 12 hours of official launch.

The 2011 Defence Force Census Public Report found that Defence families experience an average of 4.1 months separated due to deployment.
The report also found that Navy families spend between 150 – 180 days apart a year when posted to seagoing ships.
