New Aussie App gives open homes a makeover

Announcement posted by PurpleDoor 10 Dec 2013

Aussie start up PurpleDoor to bring open homes into the App age by giving users the ability to rate properties and agents in real time using their iPhone or iPad device.

PurpleDoor a free App available only in Australia gives users the ability to publicly rate properties and agents. Public ratings are based on fixed criteria, the averages of which are published on the App (all contributions are anonymous as the App requires no sign up or login so comments can not be traced back to individual users).

“We wanted to bring out the best in all participants who come together to make the open home experience what it is and public feedback is the best way to improve individual performance” says Paul Harnisch founder of PurpleDoor.

“Our goal is to have the most interested attendees arrive at the most appropriate properties with the most welcoming and informed agents” he continues.

Users can also set up their own private scorecards to rate specific aspects of each property to arrive at an overall score. With a simple click they can then compare the score for each property so they can make a very quick assessment of which property is best for them.

“The scorecard system is really useful because it’s not only a quick way to assess but it forces you to think about what you want, so when you turn up you know exactly what to look for at the inspection” says Debra Atkinson PurpleDoor co-founder.

The PurpleDoor founders are working hard to encourage as many users as possible to ‘put a score on every door’ they visit, even if they think a property isn’t for them at first glance. This is a big shift in open for inspection behaviour as most people don’t objectively compare the properties they visit.

Many people will walk straight out of a property if they get the feeling it’s not right for them and won't document why (and PurpleDoor’s own research indicates that most people spend under 3 minutes at the average open home).

“Our mantra is if you’ve bothered to turn up to an open for inspection, then take the 30 seconds or so to put a score on the door because you may only know it’s the right place when you compare it to what else is out there” says Atkinson.

This is the first release of features to help give open for inspections a modern makeover. The next generation will go one step further providing users the ability incorporate photos, exchange scorecards and inspection results, exchange listing information and agent details.

So if you’ve been doing it rough around the open for inspection circuit lately and want to improve your experience or you just want to modernise the way you inspect, download the App and start scoring those doors!
