Asset Management With supaTOOLS

Announcement posted by SupaTools 28 Mar 2014

It still surprises us the extent as to which companies rely on Excel spreadsheets to record all of their IT asset information. With little or no governance in place, this information can soon become out of date and misrepresent the actual IT landscape. In addition, the limits of Excel are soon realised with the inability to link records together easily to show where an asset is located, who is using it, and what other assets rely on it. That coupled with the reliance of key individuals in the organisation that ‘know how it hangs together’ represents significant risk to the business should something fail, or one of those key people leave the organization.

Our aim is to provide companies with an asset repository that is not only easy to use but allows a rapid transition from existing Excel data to a database that allows visualization of relationships between items to quickly determine dependency, usage, location and responsibility.

The supaCMDB solution (CMDB stands for Configuration Management Database), provides a flexible asset repository that can be used to represent not only IT assets, but any kind of asset a company might want to track. An asset is stored as a single Configuration Item, whose attributes can include purchase price, status, end of life date and any other asset related information. supaCMDB has been designed based on and is compatible with the ITIL standard (IT Infrastructure Library)

Processes are provided for managing the full asset lifecycle including acquisition, implementation, repair, relocation and decommission. All of these actions are linked to the assets involved, providing a full history of all activities affecting the asset. The Template-based approach allows you to define specific work-flows for each process, so that you can mimic your existing processes without having to redefine the way you do business.

Coupled with the supaDESK module, all incidents affecting an asset can be recorded and linked to the asset, providing a full incident history. This combined with the built-in change management features of supaCMDB, provides a fully integrated service management platform.

Thanks to intuitive design, you won’t need to rely on the Vendor to make customizations to extend the schema or change form layouts. This can all be done by an Administrator within the application without any specialist back-end database knowledge.

Since the solution is a 100% web based application, the data can be accessed securely anywhere, anytime without any client software apart from a standard web browser.

supaCMDB and supaDESK are part of the supaTOOLS product suite, which are developed by the New Zealand based company Tech Inventions Limited. The software can either be installed internally on Windows or Linux platform, or you can utilise Tech Invention’s cloud infrastructure and be up and running very quickly.
