Macquarie Telecom proves position in three-way competitive pitch

Announcement posted by The Origin Agency 10 Apr 2014

Retains Domani Digital

10 April 2014: In response to Domani Digital’s scheduled review program on behalf of client Aussiepay, Macquarie Telecom (ASX: MAQ), Australia’s largest business-to-business telecommunications and high performance hosting provider, has successfully retained the business in a competitive pitch against Interactive and NextGen.

Domani Digital renewed the relationship with the hosting provider as Macquarie Telecom’s commitment to innovation in the disaster recovery space was particularly impressive, said Vince Nicita, Domani Digital’s Managing Director.

“The Australian hosting game has changed drastically in the last few years. Today, a number of providers each promise something different. While we’ve always been incredibly happy with our Macquarie Telecom service, it’s our due diligence to regularly put the account out to tender to ensure things stay fresh and challenging.

“The tender process revealed that none of the other providers could bring to the table the same level of service that Macquarie Telecom does. What clinched the deal was our confidence in Macquarie Telecom’s dedication to staying ahead of the technology curb. We were particularity impressed with their LAUNCH Disaster Recovery (DR) offering,” says Nicita.

Macquarie Telecom’s LAUNCH Disaster Recovery solution boasts an average recovery speed 15-minutes faster than the industry average. This is partially due to the proximity of the company’s three independent data centres. Dubbed Australia’s first ‘turn-key’ disaster recovery solution, the service removes the complexity that comes with a bespoke solution implementation.

“Most of our clients, which include Aussiepay, The Nuance Group, POCO and Hope 103.2, operate ecommerce stores or rely heavily on their online presence, so limiting the impact of downtime is important to both their reputation and ours. The tender process was on behalf of their needs, as well as our own.”

Discussing the other providers and the pitch process, Nicita added: “Some providers could not offer the same degrees of security and assurance and we didn't want to manage the entire infrastructure ourselves.  While price was competitive across the tender process, support and uptime were the most important factors in our decision making process.

“We were also concerned with data sovereignty, and found that Macquarie Telecom’s Australian based data centres could guarantee the privacy of our data which is extremely important to the likes of Aussiepay. This wasn’t 100% clear with some of the other providers,” says Nicita.

James Mystakidis, Macquarie Telecom’s Group Executive, Hosting Operations and Product said Domani Digital had always been an important client and that the business was confident in its ability to meet their needs.

“We like a challenge, and the tender process was a great opportunity for us to reiterate why we are the best business partner for their technology needs,” says Mystakidis.

A recent study by Tolly1, a global leader in hands-on technology research, found in a benchmark test against Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Rackspace, that Macquarie Telecom’s infrastructure is on average three times faster for high-traffic web servers that host thousands of HTML pages and JPG images, and can enable three times more concurrent users at less than half the price.

Mystakidis added:  “It’s data like this, and our partnerships with the likes of VMware, EMC, and Cisco, that enable us to outperform the competition.”

“Australian companies are increasingly looking to partner with a provider who can give them the high levels of support, flexibility and control that they need. We’re confident that our relationship with Domani will continue to go from strength to strength.”
