On Monday, 9th June, House Rules was the #1 show with over 1.7 million viewers. House Rules has been consistently on the top of the ratings in Perth.
Renovation is the hot topic of discussion and interest this year.
However did you know that DIYers are spending more time, money, energy and resources than they need to on home renovations?
“DIYers are ‘having a go’ at completing total renovations by themselves - without the proper knowledge - and it’s costing them in time and money,” said Michael Della Penna, Director of The Renovators Hub.
We have also seen many trades try to branch into total renovations without the proper qualifications and knowledge which home owners are unaware of.
One of the largest stumbling blocks a do-it-yourselfer or a handyman encounters: a building permit, required from the Council before any work begins. In fact, he emphasised, under the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011, a registered building contractor is required to be registered to carry out building work valued over $20,000, and any structural work regardless of the value.
As a consequence of attempting a renovation without the required permits and approvals, a homeowner could be issued a ‘stop work’ order, which remains in effect until you obtain a permit. If the work doesn’t meet the requirements of the Building Code of Australia and the council rules, the work may need to be redone at the homeowner’s own cost.
In short, you need to have a building permit in hand before the first hammer meets the nail.
It’s not just someone who knows how to install a sink or build a wall that homeowners need. The best option is employing a renovation specialist who knows the whole process and is properly qualified.
“Michael and myself Renovator’s Hub have a combined 20-plus years of experience, are licensed builders, and we know what we are doing,” Ralph Perone declared.
Emphasising how important it is to know the process, they explained how any job can be completed much quicker. “A DIY kitchen on average takes 12 weeks; with us we can renovate in as little as 3-4 weeks,” Della Penna said. “DIY can cost you more in time, money, and stress and even physio bills.”
