App Compear launches Kickstarter campaign to engage developers and brand managers

App Compear wants to make switching phones easier for consumers and empower developers with more information on who is switching phones, where, when and with which apps before they buy.

With the ever-increasing variety of mobile phones on different operating systems, consumers are challenged when considering their next phone purchase as to whether their existing apps will be available, or if any costs are associated with moving to a new handset.  Offered as a stand-alone web service or part of a retail experience, Melbourne-based company App Compear has launched a BETA version of its product which enables consumers to check the compatibility of their apps when considering switching phones, and is chasing support to implement the full service.   

In doing so, App Compear is surpassing the app stores and passing on crucial ROI information to developers and brand owners of apps. By providing developer account access to app information and a white label version of the product to be implemented in telecommunications stores, App Compear wants to solve an annoying problem for app-loving consumers and budget conscious app creators.   

Coming off the back of a private funding round and recent partnership with leading digital products company, Tigerspike, the Kickstarter campaign is the beginning of App Compear’s journey to solve an annoying little problem for a lot a people, and will work in both point-of-sale retail environments and as a standalone web product.

Founder of App Compear, Hayden Whitecliffe says, “When upgrading my iPhone for a Windows device which had a great camera and SD card, I was surprised and frustrated that my most used and loved apps weren’t available, and this would’ve affected my decision when purchasing the new phone.   

“At the time, I didn’t understand the complexities and the cost of cross-platform development. Even now, it’s still not cheap to do despite existing porting technologies. I can however understand why the developers or brand owners of apps hesitate to develop on all platforms or devices. They don’t have that information to understand what devices or operating systems their customers want to use and if their efforts result in a return on investment. With App Compear, we want to provide this information and service which is becoming more and more necessary in our digitally-evolving, daily lives.”   

App Compear has been in negotiations with a leading telecommunications provider in Australia for an in-store trial of the service and is now seeking the endorsement of brands and developers to back the success of the service as they look to expand.   
App Compear has created a BETA product which is live on their website and now launched a kickstarter campaign to promote it.

- Assists users in pre-purchase decision making process by providing a total cost of switching phones between ecosystems (availability and cost of repurchasing their apps) 
- Provides registered users with updates or alerts when Apps become available on a desired phone, encouraging them to then move to a new ecosystem or desired phone
