BRETT HUDSON APPOINTED CEO OF PEDDLE THORP ARCHITECTS (QLD)
A renewed focus on nuanced design while continuing to embrace technology to streamline project delivery are key priorities for the newly appointed CEO of Queensland architectural practice Peddle Thorp, Brett Hudson.
Mr Hudson has been appointed to lead 35 staff based in offices in Brisbane and Cairns, which is part of a network of companies that includes Peddle Thorp Architects in PNG, Melbourne, Auckland, Shanghai, PTW in Sydney and PTI in Jakarta.
Brett, who has held senior roles at Peddle Thorp for over 20 years, said he was keen to use his influence as CEO to enhance the practice’s position as a leader in designing major health, education, commercial and public buildings.
“Peddle Thorp is a firm that is consistently lauded for their involvement in creating learning spaces and public buildings designed for collaborative use, including the Caboolture Hub, Gallery and Learning Centre; Queensland University of Technology libraries at Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point campuses, the Queensland State Library as well as the Toowoomba City library which is currently under construction.
“Our strength lies in our ability to interpret the vision of clients to design major architectural projects that are both aesthetically compelling while being highly functional,” said Mr Hudson. “The Caboolture Hub design, for example, was recognised by the Institute of Architects for outstanding ‘Public Buildings Architecture QLD’ due to the high levels of public accessibility and engagement encouraged by the design.“
“Receiving awards such as these reflects our firm’s emphasis on being attuned to how design interacts with clients’ needs, constraints and how the buildings will be used.”
Brett has led the recently completed design of the Papua New Guinea’s Waigani National Courts Complex in collaboration with PTW Architects and James Cubitt. This $290 Million project comprises the Supreme, Appeal and National Courts in Port Moresby, which is currently being tendered in PNG.
Mr Hudson said that Peddle Thorp in Queensland are also at the forefront of integrating technological advances to help clients visualise and plan architectural projects to ensure they remain on time and on budget. “Building information modelling software is particularly valued by our clients because of their long term investment in buildings and the value that they place on managing their building assets.”
David Porgand and Peter Gardiner, directors and owners of Peddle Thorp, have taken up senior executive roles reporting to the CEO, to drive forward greater leadership in their industry key focus areas.
