Startup tax legislation announcement – expert available to comment
Dinesh De Silva, Strategist and CEO of tech start-up Netstripes, says that the startup tax legislation to be introduced by the Turnbull Government is a coup for start-ups in Australia.
With “sophisticated” investors getting massive tax concessions, startups have never been in a better state for them to invest in their growth. As a tech startup themselves, Netstripes have seen first hand the massive barriers there are to Australian startups performing a mass exodus to the US and others having to close shop. The changes mean that the incentives are now among the most generous in the world.
Today Netstripes launched new findings from a report which says that only 22% of small Australian businesses are actually digitally engaged. De Silva states that the impact of digital engagement on small businesses is essential for their success. The digital world opens up huge opportunities for small businesses, which holds the potential for generating billions of dollars in economic growth and reducing unemployment in the country.
De Silva is pleased the government is lifting red tape and freeing startups to find investment in Australia and competing on a global stage. Let’s not let Canva, Atlassian and Envato be the first of many to take their greatness global.
Dinesh is based in Sydney and is available to comment.
