New Hanson Bass Point Quarry production plant will more than double aggregate production

Announcement posted by Brolton Group 15 Apr 2016

The new production plant for Hanson Bass Point will increase aggregate production from 1.5million tonnes to 4million tonnes per year.

The new production plant for Hanson Bass Point will increase aggregate production from 1.5million tonnes to 4million tonnes per year.

One of the largest suppliers of heavy building materials to the building industry, Hanson Bass Point supplies the Sydney Illawarra area with aggregates including crushed rock, sand, gravel, crusher dust, road base and premixed concrete.

The expansion of the facility includes relocating and upgrading the existing plant to have less visual impact on the area, which is achieved by locating the plant within the quarry pit; providing a unique challenge in working with the topography of the site. Hanson are expanding their quarry extraction area from sea level, to as far as 40m below sea level.

Upgraded plant facilities and design will see the plant processing 650 tonnes of aggregate materials per hour, and will incorporate an automated truck-load out, pre-coat plant and pug mill. Additional infrastructure will include a concrete plant, transport depot and weighbridge, and workshop/ laboratory and office area.

The expansion of Hanson’s facilities will be completed by Brolton Group, a Riverstone based engineering services company.

Ben Lynch, Managing Director of Brolton Group, explains “The new facility will provide a considerable increase in terms of process efficiency and throughput. The current crushing plant has been operating for 40 years, and there have been many advances in processing technologies within that time”

“The plant has been redesigned for optimum efficiency, with streamlined processes, reduced wastage, better resource utilisation and importantly, significantly increased production capabilities”

The project is due for completion at the end of 2017.
