Statistics show anywhere between 30-50% of businesses don’t make it past two years.

Statistics show anywhere between 30-50% of businesses don’t make it past two years. But this month one unique local business is celebrating reaching that milestone.

KeepSnaps is the brainchild of Melbourne entrepreneur Kathryn Thompson. It is an instant printing service that she rents out to big events such as weddings and corporate events. Guests use the hashtag on social media to receive a cute instant print out, while the event organiser is thrilled to see their hashtag go viral.

When she launched KeepSnaps from her bedroom with just $2000 two years ago, she had no idea where it would lead, but she was ready for a challenge.

Now two years on, she has since quit her job to work full time on KeepSnaps, employ staff, and double profits year on year, to reach $100,000 turnover this financial year.

“I got in at just the right time. Companies are using events and activations more and more to launch products and connect to consumers, and consumers are becoming more and more resistant to traditional advertising,” says Kathryn.

KeepSnaps works well as it allows brands to give their customers a take home photo, and most of the time they’ll stick it on the fridge or on their desk and will look at it every day for months.

And KeepSnaps is also proving popular at private events. Brides have been quick to embrace the technology for their wedding as it saves guests from having to line up for a photo booth, and it ensures they don’t miss any of the action.

The photos can serve as an alternative to the traditional bonbonniere.

As bride Nicole said, “Every time we look through our guest book and hashtag our wedding comes to life again and nothing will ever be able to replace the candid moments you captured. Not only did your team worked tirelessly to make sure every one of our guests got to take a special memory home with them, you also captured some of our favourite photos of the night.”

As for the future, Kathryn says she will continue to expand the business across Australia, and incorporate other services such as phone charging stations and backdrops, while continuing to learn along the way.
