Halloween Trends and Best Sellers by The Party People
Halloween just gets bigger and bigger every year. The Party People has sold Halloween products for over 30 years and have noticed major shifts in how Australia's celebrate Halloween. 30 years ago Halloween celebrations in Australia were limited to ex-pat Americans that wished to celebrate the fun holiday from back home. Today its almost mainstream.

The 3 main reason for the growing popularity of Halloween are;
- Events being hosted with schools participating, pubs and clubs hosting Halloween nights, theme parks and other entertainment venues hosting Halloween events, and there's even Sydney Zombie Walk which attracted over 15,000 people last year.
- Retailers promoting the event in the hope to cash in such as Woolworths, Big W and discount retailers
- Social media increasing awareness of an event people are enjoying.

The main trends we are seeing are;
- People hosting more elaborate and expensive parties. For example halloween themed paper tableware in the past was more popular than themed plastic tableware and now we are seeing the reverse. Big ticket halloween items that are more stylish than tacky are more popular today.
- Buying costumes instead of hiring. Our best selling costumes range between $20 and $40 while hire shops charge between $80 - $120 so we are seeing mass closures of costume hire stores.
- Growing awareness with Halloween sales growing approximately 20% per year (exact figures provided upon request).

The best selling items for Halloween are;
- Spider web - continues to be the best seller every year
- Blood sucker lolly pops - lolly pops that make you mouth appear to be bleeding
- Giant Spiders - more recently, giant spiders have become the third best selling item.

The best selling costumes are also zombies which have overtaken vampires as the number one character to dress as for Halloween.
