Pricewise Insulation Sells Loose Pieces to Avoid Sending them to Landfill
Loose batts of insulation are an inevitable part of any insulation installers day. It's not uncommon for a Melbourne insulation installer to find themselves left with a tonne of loose batts - well if not a tonne, at least a lot more than you can fit in the boot of a small car. Insulation batts for ceilings, walls and underfloors come in various acoustic densities and "R-Values", and are almost always specified in advance, meaning that it's not always as simple as transporting the loose pieces to the next job. And filling up the common building site skip to overflowing with leftover batts after each job doesn't tend to earn the installers any brownie points with the builder or other trades..
One Melbourne insulation reseller has partnered with a large commercial insulation installing company and adopted a simple solution solution, accepting loose batts back in return, at no charge to the installer, and posting the loose batts on Gumtree.
Paul van Oord is managing director of Pricewise Insulation: "The demand from customers for the "loose batts" has been quite surprising.. There must be a lot of small renovations going on out there." Mr van Oord went on to explain how customers can even save a few dollars by opting for the loose batt option. "One bag of wall insulation can contain over 25m2 of insulation. So if someone's calculated that they need just under 30 m2, it can be a bit disappointing to need to order a full extra bag. Selling the leftover pieces individually is a win for us, for the customer, and for the environment."
