WARRNAMBOOL, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA — Since completing her training in England on the use of eye patterns and their effectiveness in the way the brain processes and releases emotions associated with trauma, Andrea Lane has incorporated these into her therapy practice with great success. Through a process called Visual Emotional Repatterning (VER), she has empowered people to take control of their lives, gain knowledge, and create life-changing results for themselves.
Our bodies are constantly processing our emotions. The mind and body are intertwined systems that interact with our environment, including all five of our senses. Bilateral eye movements are the focus of the therapy, in which information is accessed that enables the mind and body to then release it. Neuro-linguistic Programing (NLP) also uses eye movements as cues to a person’s representations.
Furthermore, our emotional life is physically imprinted on our bodies, and it carries with it all our emotional sense memories from childhood. That’s why when we experience a familiar smell, sound, or place, it can create a flood of memories that can either be pleasant or challenge us to maintain our composure. These memories are stored in the limbic system.
The limbic system—a portion of the brain that includes the amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, hypothalamus, basal ganglia, and cingulate gyrus—is responsible for moderating the libido, processing sense of smell, promoting bonding, controlling appetite and sleep cycles, moderating motivation, storing highly charged emotional memories, and setting the mind’s emotional tone, filtering external events through our internal states.
So, to treat any traumatic memories, we stir up the thinking brain. Our system is physiologically geared to process information so that on a physical, mental, and emotional level, good health and well-being can be achieved.
Visual Emotional Repatterning (VER) uses bilateral eye movements in conjunction with the limbic system to help reprogram neural pathways. VER uses the mind-body connection to locate, process, and release experiences and symptoms that are often beyond the reach of the conscious mind. The process allows for new associations, insights, and positive emotions to emerge. This can be incredibly useful for wellness practitioners looking to create therapy breadth in their practise.
The main benefit of VER, when administered by a trained professional, assists in releasing stuck emotions, patterns of thoughts, and their resulting physical symptoms. Another benefit is that clients don’t have to verbalize an event for the information to be processed in an accelerated way.
