Smith’s ‘super stoked’ to join ABC Gamer

By Will McLennan in Media News on
The newly appointed Digital and Social Producer at ABC Gamer, the former Kotaku managing editor David Smith, has told Influencing, “We have a lot of goals that we want to achieve. One of my personal goals is to ensure the ABC Gamer Team produces great Australian gaming journalism content because that’s something we need, especially in Australia after Kotaku Australia closed down.” Smith said he is “super stoked” about joining ABC Gamer and has already laid out clear goals for what he wants to achieve with the publication.   “In my opinion, ABC is very sympathetic to the idea that Australia needs great gaming coverage and that there is space for the ABC Gamer team to do that. “I’ll also be involved in creating and working on the editorial strategy, including figuring out what that ABC Gamer YouTube channel looks like for 2025 and beyond. We already have some ideas about what we’re doing, and we’re looking at working with new people.  “There’s some reall

Ombudsman asked to take action after Albo radio interview

By Tony Bosworth in Media News on
An ABC radio interview with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has led to 21 compaints to the ABC Ombudsman. Radio host Stewart Brash at ABC Alice Spring Breakfast on February 7 suggested in an interview with the PM he was 'on the nose' with voters and his popularity was slipping. The robust interview led to the complaints from members of the public claiming bias and lack of impartiality. The ABC Ombudsman’s report on the Brash/Albanese interview reveals 21 complaints were made over the interview with Mr Albanese. “The complainants were concerned that the interview lacked impartiality because the interviewer asked questions that demonstrated a pro-Coalition bias and repeatedly interrupted the Prime Minister,” the report said. But the Ombudsman found Mr Brash had not breached the ABC’s editorial standards for impartiality, saying the host “posed challenging questions and interjected at times to seek additional clarification”. There's no doubt the PM's popularity h

The Delhi High Court issued a notice to OpenAI directing a response to an application filed by the Indian Music Industry (IMI) group. The application seeks to intervene in the copyright lawsuit by news agency Asian News International (ANI) against the AI giant, according to The Economic Times. The Indian Music Industry Group, which comprises Saregama India and T-Series, has raised concerns over the improper use of their sound recordings in AI model training. Emphasising the need to keep the suit focused, Justice Amit Bansal stated, “We can’t keep expanding the scope of the suit. You can file your own suit,” according to Bar & Bench’s post on X. The court will hear the case on February 21, March 11 and 18. ANI filed a lawsuit against the US AI giant OpenAI in November 2024, accusing it of using its published content to train its chatbot without consent. OpenAI denied the allegations, stating that their systems make “fair use of publicly available data”. The Federa
