Addressing the gathering, Machchina said journalists must work with enthusiasm and dedication, noting that without passion, indifference sets in and “we are half dead.” She stressed that credibility in journalism is sustained only when news is reported promptly and proactively. “Societal change is possible through journalism. Nagpur’s Yashodhara Nagar police have registered a case against YouTube journalist Ritesh Borkar, alleging he spread false information about the investigation into the murder of BJP ward president Sachin Shahu. According to The Live Nagpur, the complaint was filed by a police sub-inspector after Borkar, who runs the channel MahaNews 7, uploaded a video on November 22. The clip criticised the police search at the residence of accused Tarvendersingh alias Sonu Gaur. Police officials said the video contained “false and misleading claims” that sought to undermine the credibility of the ongoing probe.

A national conference on “Press, People and the Constitution: Reimagining Freedom and Accountability” was held in Tripura on Tuesday, November 25, marking the 75th Constitution Day. The day-long event brought together journalists, legal experts, academicians, and students to discuss the media’s evolving role in a constitutional democracy. As part of the programme, NLU Tripura held a press felicitation ceremony, honouring national and regional media organisations for their contribution as the Fourth Pillar of Democracy. The event saw participation from Tripura’s press fraternity, law students, faculty members, and representatives of NLU Tripura. The conference was inaugurated by Justice (Retd.) It’s not everyday the news is about the news, but that’s what happened this week as Sydney Morning Herald editor Bevan Shields announced he was stepping aside to focus on his health and wellbeing, as well as the next chapter in his career. He will return to the Herald’s newsroom in 2026 in a senior writing role. Shields, a former federal editor for both the Herald and The Age, informed staff on Tuesday afternoon, saying the job had been the honour of his life. Shields will be replaced by Jordan Baker.  The story has been widely covered across the media but the first to suggest something was about to happen came from The Australian’s media writer James Madden who wrote on Sunday evening - two days before the official announcement - that, “Bevan “Sheffield” Shields will next week mark four years as editor of The Sydney Morning Herald.
