By Staff Writer in Media News on
The Cyber Police Station in Bihar’s Siwan district has issued an emergency notice to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), seeking the removal of several posts related to the alleged mob lynching of 25-year-old Shahzad Ali, a Muslim youth. The notice, dated June 1, cited content as “objectionable, misleading and fact-less” with potential to disturb law and order. It was issued under Section 79(3)(B) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). According to police, viral posts carried implications for public order, including possible threats to life and property. Among the cited posts was one by journalist Meer Faisal, Founder Editor of The Observer Post, who shared a photograph alleging that a police officer could be seen smiling near Shahzad Ali’s body. The killing has sparked outrage. Ali’s wife, Mobina Khatoon, said a group of men arrived at their home, called him outside, and forcibly took him away. T

By Meena R. Prashant in Media News on
Journalists in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday forced Agriculture Director Sriram Venkitaraman IAS, reportedly an accused in the 2019 death of journalist K M Basheer, to leave a press conference convened by newly appointed Agriculture Minister T Siddique at the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The protest erupted after journalists saw Venkitaraman seated alongside the minister in the Assembly media room. Journalists raised slogans and objected to his presence, arguing that an accused in Basheer's death should not be given prominence at an official government event. It is learnt that Minister Siddique initially rejected the journalists' demand twice, saying the matter could be discussed later. Journalists, however, remained firm, insisting that an accused in Basheer's death should not be seated alongside the minister during an official press conference. Following the protest, Suresh Edapal, senior journalist and general secretary of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), t
