By Brayden Sim in Media News on Thursday, 29th February 2024 at 11:41amWith over fifteen years of experience at the Australian Broadcast Corporation, journalist and comedian Ange Lavoipierre has taken on the role of National Technology Reporter.

Having a hand in many positions across the broadcaster, including Triple J’s Hack, ABC Radio Current Affairs and The Signal, Lavoipierre most recently was executive producer and host of ABC pop-culture podcast Schmeitgeist.

Fenech and TechGuide celebrate 15 years
By Will McLennan in Media News on Friday, 30th January 2026 at 2:32pm
Stephen Fenech believes TechGuide has become a respected and well-trusted brand for people of all ages and levels of expertise, as he celebrates his masthead’s 15th anniversary.
“Ninety-nine per cent of people aren’t tech experts, and that's a bigger audience for me to aim at, and that's exactly what I set out to do”, Fenech told Influencing.
“To this day, I still write my content in plain English and explain every acronym and really spell it out for people, so it can be easily understood what’s going on, and people can understand my reviews, so when they make their own decisions, they can make informed decisions.”
TechGuide reached the 15-year milestone last Saturday, and Fenech said that over those years, he’s become pretty happy with how the publication has fared.
It's been quite the journey, he says, adding he has no regrets about starting TechGuide back in January 2011. Fenech added it was his father who
Ripe in Town - Championing Australia's undiscovered regional gems
By Tony Bosworth in Media News on Friday, 30th January 2026 at 1:53pm
A new digital publication, Ripe in Town.com, shines a spotlight on Australia's vast and often overlooked regional and rural areas, aiming to inspire both domestic and international travellers to explore the country's hidden treasures.
Lauren Deighton, Editor-in-Chief and founder of Ripe in Town describes the platform as a "centralised hub focused purely on the regions," and it’s a much-needed resource in a landscape often dominated by city-centric travel content.
"There's a lot of good publications out there that do already cover regional areas, but they're usually niched down to a specific region or a specific area," Deighton explains. "Obviously, regional Australia is huge. It's a huge area to cover, so there's endless content opportunities for us."
The publication, currently in its startup growth phase, has a clear mission: "We want to encourage visitation to all of those amazing, often underrated towns and regions that people don't necessarily think of when they're planning
Nine sells its radio stations and buys QMS Media in major shakeup
By Tony Bosworth in Media News on Friday, 30th January 2026 at 9:23am
Nine Entertainment Co has announced this morning it is acquiring digital outdoor media platform, QMS Media (QMS), selling its broadcast radio stations to billionaire Arthur Laundy and converting regional television station NBN (Northern NSW) from a wholly-owned business to an affiliate, owned and operated by Nine’s regional partner, WIN Network (WIN).
The radio stations being sold are 2GB, 3AW, 4BC, 6PR, 2UE, Magic1278 and 4BH, for what would seem something of a bargain at $56million.
The major moves represent "a step change in Nine’s asset portfolio", said the company which also owns publications The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review. The print and digital mastheads are not affected by the moves.
Nine said the reshaped portfolio "meaningfully enhances Nine’s offering to advertisers as a unique cross-platform
digital media proposition, combining Nine’s premium assets in Streaming and
THE BRIEF: Plot twist
By Tony Bosworth in Media News on Friday, 30th January 2026 at 6:08am
Welcome to Friday and yes a bit of a political plot twist covered extensively this morning in what some once-upon-a-time used to call 'the serious papers'- Liberal leader Sussan Ley keeps her job...because the rivals cannot agree on who should replace her. As plots go it's maybe short of a sizzle but is yet another gift for the political writers in a tale which increasingly has more twists than a corkscrew.
At The Australian no less than five of its front row writers and a photographer take to the keyboards on this one and the main story (Brunch time for Libs: breakfast summit fails to strike pact so Ley not toast...yet') by Anthony Galloway, Sarah Ison, and Greg Brown is coupled with a wonderful picture by Liam Mendes and that great headline too. There's also an insightful piece from The Oz's national editor Dennis Shanahan who says Ley has been given some additional time "to continue her beleagured Liberal leadership"
NDTV’s Q3 FY26 revenue rises 23% QoQ, losses continue
By Staff Writer in Media News on Thursday, 29th January 2026 at 10:48pm
NDTV reported a strong sequential rise in revenue for the third quarter of financial year 2026, even though the company continued to face losses. For the quarter ending December 31, 2025, consolidated revenue from operations reached Rs 150.4 crore, up 23 per cent from Rs 122.3 crore in Q2 FY26, showing a healthy quarter-on-quarter growth. Total consolidated income also rose 22 per cent from the previous quarter to Rs 152.2 crore.
However, on a year-on-year basis, both revenue and total income declined compared to the same quarter last year. The company’s expenses rose sharply during the quarter, mainly due to higher spending on programming, employee costs, and operational activities. Total expenses reached Rs 227 crore.
According to e4m, the increase in costs resulted in a consolidated net loss of Rs 80.3 crore for the quarter. For the nine months ended December 31, 2025, NDTV reported a slight rise in revenue, but losses widened due to sustained high expenses.
Bangladeshi journalists denies access to cover T20 World Cup
By Staff Writer in Media News on Thursday, 29th January 2026 at 10:34pm
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has turned down all requests from Bangladeshi journalists who wanted to report on the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, starting February 7.
This situation follows Bangladesh’s earlier decision to skip the tour of India, saying there were security risks. After that, the ICC dropped Bangladesh from the competition and included Scotland instead.
As per The Daily Star, officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said more than 130 journalists applied for media passes, but not a single person was given approval.
A few photojournalists said they first received confirmation messages from the ICC, but those were later cancelled without any clear explanation. One photographer said he was even sent a visa support letter before being told his request had been rejected.
Sports journalists in Bangladesh have expressed strong anger over the move. They said Bangladeshi media has been covering ICC events for decades, including tournam
