CIO50 wraps up a testing year for the industry
By Seamus Byrne in Media News on Monday, 30th November 2020 at 11:43amCIOs have been tested like never before in 2020 (make your arguments for Y2K at your leisure), so it's an interesting year to see the CIO50 list drop from CIO Australia. We caught up with editor-in-chief Byron Connolly for a few of his thoughts on putting together this year's list as well as the wider state of CIO Australia in this tough year for the industry.

How was the 2020 edition of CIO50 compared to the past?
The CIO50 is now in its 5th year and when COVID struck in March, we knew we would have to work hard to get nominations in what has been a turbulent year for enterprise technology execs across all industries. This year we asked senior tech execs to tell their COVID stories and we were surprised how many great nominations there were from CIOs across governm...

'Honour killing': 3 months on, chargesheet names teen's parents, brother as accused
By Devanshi Mehta · The Times of India, New Delhi · Page 6
Delhi Police filed a chargesheet before Tis Hazari court naming a 19-year-old woman's father, mother and brother as accused in her murder, alleging she was smothered with a pillow after she refused to end a relationship with a distant relative. The chargesheet details how the family attempted to pass off the killing as natural death due to kidney failure and jaundice before attempting burial, which police intercepted. The document lists 40 witnesses and is supported by forensic, medical and public testimony, with neighbours telling TOI the victim had been locked in a room for five days prior to her death.
The story combines original ground reporting — including TOI's own prior visit to
Manipur journalist Elangbam Ojitkumar exposes government’s neglect of rural schools, wins prestigious award
By Meena R. Prashant in Media News on Monday, 06th July 2026 at 2:59pm
In a state marred by brutal violence, extreme police interference and limited freedom of movement for several years now, a young scribe chose to focus instead on the crumbling education system in the state and is winning accolades.
30-year-old Elangbam Ojitkumar, associated with IMPACT TV, has received the RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust Award for his 2025 investigations into poor governance and crumbling infrastructure in rural schools.
Politics, nepotism and corruption remain the biggest reasons Manipur's education system keeps failing, the investigative journalist told Influencing, after his reporting pushed the state's neglected rural schools into public view.
"Despite pressure, I will continue to bring truth to light," Ojitkumar said after receiving the honour. "As a journalist, it is my duty to highlight issues that affect people. This recognition encourages me to continue doing meaningful work."
His reporting documented failing infrastructure and administrative neglect in s
Court dismisses journalist’s plea against Mumbai Press Club expulsion
By Pavithra A in Media News on Monday, 06th July 2026 at 2:25pm
The Mumbai City Civil Court has dismissed a notice of motion filed by senior journalist Gurbir Singh, who sought a stay on his six‑year expulsion from the Mumbai Press Club until the disposal of his civil suit. Singh, along with two other members, was expelled over an informal meeting held at the club’s terrace on January 19, attended by some of the accused in the Elgaar Parishad case.
Earlier, the civil court had stayed the expulsion and issued notices to the Press Club and its office‑bearers. However, the Bombay High Court stayed that order on May 22, observing that the civil court had not provided sufficient reasons for granting interim relief and allowing Singh to contest the club’s elections. The High Court later directed the civil court to decide the notice of motion.
City Civil Judge A.H. Baig ruled that Singh had failed to establish a prima facie case for interim relief. The court held that the club had substantially followed its disciplinary procedure under
Court grants bail to two journalists in Gujarat CTOC case
By Staff Writer in Media News on Monday, 06th July 2026 at 2:15pm
A local court has granted bail to journalists Abeda Shaikh and Sabir Shaikh, who were booked under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime Act (GujCTOC). The order came after the court considered arguments from both sides.
According to Times of India, the two had been charged under the stringent provisions of GujCTOC in a case linked to allegations involving organised crime. The bail order allows them to be released from custody subject to court‑imposed conditions, while the investigation and trial continue.
The case has drawn attention because GujCTOC is typically invoked in serious organised crime and terrorism‑related matters. The court clarified that the bail order does not decide the merits of the case, and proceedings against the journalists will continue before the trial court.
This development marks an important stage in the case, with the journalists allowed to remain out on bail as the matter progresses through the judicial process.
Jackie O will not make multi-million settlement with ARN
By Staff Wruters in Media News on Monday, 06th July 2026 at 7:55am
Radio broadcaster ARN is set for a public legal stoush with former KIIS presenter Jackie 'O' Henderson, who has "absolutely no interest" in reaching a settlement.
The Australian's media reporter Steve Jackson reported this morning that Henderson was being required to undergo a "court-ordered medical examination conducted by a suitably qualified medical expert selected by ARN within the next fortnight", as her legal case rumbled along.
Henderson is suing ARN for wrongfully dismissing her, after she complained about the behaviour of co-host Kyle Sandilands. She had a 10-year, $100 million contract with ARN.
Jackson reported that ARN is arguing that Sandiland's and Henderson's own companies; Quasar and Henderson Media were "solely responsible for controlling the manner in which they provide program services", and therefore it was responsbility of those two entities to "ensure the health and safety of Ms Henderson while performing the program services".
He cited network sources who cla

NSW child’s death sparks murder charge and disturbing cannibalism probe
A Central Coast mother has been charged with murdering her four-year-old son, with police also investigating claims that cannibalism may have been involved. Beyond the immediate tragedy, the case is raising hard questions about how child-safety systems intersect with policing and mental health, and why warning signs may have been missed. Australia’s inflation problem worsens, putting pressure on the RBA and government spending
New analysis suggests Australia now sits among the highest core inflation rates in the developed world, with economists pointing to delayed monetary tightening and inflationary fiscal settings. The story matters because it sharpens the political contest over cost-of-living relief versus budget restraint, and raises the risk of rates staying higher for longer.
