How was the 2020 edition of CIO50 compared to the past?
The CIO50 is now in its 5th year and when COVID struck in March, we knew we would have to work hard to get nominations in what has been a turbulent year for enterprise technology execs across all industries. This year we asked senior tech execs to tell their COVID stories and we were surprised how many great nominations there were from CIOs across governm...

By Suganthi Marimuthu in Media News on Thursday, 09th July 2026 at 3:50pm
The Guwahati Press Club has demanded a public apology from Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shambhavi Mishra after two reporters accused the senior Assam Police officer of humiliating, intimidating and threatening them during an official interaction.
What began as one club's condemnation has since drawn in the Dispur, East Guwahati and Pragjyotishpur press clubs, Journalist Association For Assam and the Assam Union of Working Journalists (Asom Bartajibi Sangha), who have jointly sought a public apology, an impartial inquiry and disciplinary action if the allegations are established.
The alleged conduct took place on July 4 at the Pragjyotishpur Police Outpost in Chandrapur, on the outskirts of Guwahati, where DCP Mishra had convened a briefing on an arms and ammunition seizure case. According to the two journalists, the trouble began during the question-and-answer session, as they pressed for clarifications on the investigation and continued immediately after it.

The FBI has charged Punjab Police inspector Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, serving as the Tanda SHO in Hoshiarpur, with attempting to extort $400,000 from an Indian-origin family in the US by threatening to implicate them in a murder case. The charge is part of 'Operation Hard Ball', a sweeping US action against 37 individuals linked to transnational Indian gang networks, which also named notorious gangster Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Punjab Police transferred Nagra to police lines and ordered a fact-finding inquiry while the US seeks his extradition.
The story connects a serving Indian police officer to a US federal indictment with precision — naming the accused, the scheme's mechanics,

By Nigel Bowen in Media News on Friday, 10th July 2026 at 7:30am
Every reporter has one: the story that needs months of digging, a battle-hardened editor and a newsroom with deep pockets – none of which your current role likely provides.
But the Sir Harry Evans Global Investigative Journalism Fellowship 2027 offers all three. The catch for Australian journalists is the clock: applications close at 9pm AEST today. (If that’s not enough time to throw something together, you might want to get started early on your application for next year.)
The fellowship, run by Durham University in partnership with Reuters and Tina Brown, embeds one early-career journalist in a Reuters newsroom for nine months to pursue a major investigative project, mentored by senior Reuters editors and backed by researchers at Durham's Institute of Advanced Study. The placement city, decided by the Fellowship Committee, will be London, New York, Toronto or Sydney.
"For now, we're just focused on attracting the best quality applications f
