Senior journalist Sucheta Dalal moves Delhi Court

By Staff Writer in Media News on
Senior journalist and Moneylife managing editor Sucheta Dalal has moved a Delhi court challenging an order that restricts publication of content linking businessman Manoj Sandesara and his family to the alleged Sterling Biotech bank fraud case. On April 13, District Judge Vinod Kumar Meena at Tis Hazari Courts heard the matter and issued notices to Sandesara, Google and Meta. The next hearing is scheduled for April 29. Dalal’s firm, Moneywise Media LLP, has contested an April 4 civil court order that directed platforms and media organisations to remove or block such content. The order also required Google and Meta to de‑index flagged links, including articles and a YouTube video by Moneylife. Dalal argued that the order is overly broad, violates free speech, and was passed without hearing her publication. The appeal contends that the injunction effectively curbs reporting on the Sterling Biotech case.

Reporter TV finds new direction under Anuranjan Jha

By Staff Writer in Media News on
Reporter TV may continue operations through a new regulatory route as its legal status faces scrutiny in the Kerala High Court. The Malayalam news channel is likely to be rebranded as Live 24x7 Reporter after securing a fresh licence from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under new ownership. SJM Investments (Delhi) Private Limited, led by veteran journalist Anuranjan Jha and Pradeep Kumar Jha, took control of the company on October 6, 2023. Despite the ownership shift, Reporter TV’s website still lists Reporter Broadcasting Company as the owner, with Roji Augustine as Chairman, Josekutty Augustine as Vice Chairman, and Anto Augustine as Managing Director and Managing Editor. The development follows a petition by Sabu M Jacob, who alleged misuse of the original licence granted to Indo‑Asian News Channel Private Limited. The plea states that after the Ministry of Home Affairs denied security clearance for ownership changes, control was shifted to Reporter Broadcas

Image of the Day: "Mining Push Meets Tribal Resistance" — Satyasundar Barik (The Hindu) This is the finest piece of journalism in the entire edition. Barik travels to the Sijimali hills in south Odisha and builds the story from the ground up, anchoring it in the voice of Hamdu Majhi, a Kondh tribesman whose trembling words open the piece with immediate human weight. The reporting is layered across multiple dimensions simultaneously — corporate interest (Vedanta Group's alumina refinery), constitutional law (Forest Rights Act, PESA), environmental science, economic data (311 million tonnes of bauxite reserves, Rs 2,511 crore in projected annual revenue), historical precedent (the Niyamgiri referendum of 2013), and the lived experience of villagers including pregnant women and schoolgirls arrested during police operations. What distinguishes the piece analytically is that it refuses simple binaries; it presents the state's economic rationale honestly
