WIICTA honours women reshaping tech from the inside out.

By Will McLennan in Media News on
A revamped Culture and Equity category has seen four winners at this year’s Women in ICT Awards, hosted by Foundry/ARN. The awards recognised NEXTGEN’s Sally McIntosh in the distributor category, Cognizant’s Jessica Finn in the multinational partner category, InfoTrust’s Ffrances Lawes in the partner category and HP’s Kirsty Scott in the vendor category. The category is also one of two personal soft spots for Foundry Editorial Director Cathy O’Sullivan, alongside the Community Impact category.  “It's always wonderful to see women who are going above and beyond just their day-to-day role and the other ways that they contribute to the wider community,” O’Sullivan told Influencing.   “We had some excellent entries in there from women who are helping groups and helping internally in their own organisations.” O’Sullivan added there were impressive entries across each of the categories that saw 222 finalists across the different categories. She called out th

Fashion journalism in the age of social media influencers

By Suganthi Marimuthu in Media News on
Every actor has a skincare line. Every influencer has a lip gloss. But few celebrity beauty launches in recent memory landed quite like Rihanna’s. When Fenty Beauty opened Ki Haveli, its first immersive pop-up store in India, from April 25 to May 4, it drew journalists, influencers, creators, stylists, PR professionals, and brand strategists eager to shape the conversation around the brand. The event reflected a broader shift taking place across fashion and beauty media. The fashion journalist who once held access by virtue of a publication’s masthead now shares the room with creators, digital-first editors, stylists, strategists, and influencers. In many cases, influencers reach audiences faster, generate greater engagement, and become just as important to a brand’s visibility as traditional media outlets. As brands increasingly invest in culture-led storytelling and creator-driven campaigns, questions are being raised about how fashion journalism is evolving,

CPC demands release of Malaimurasu reporter Vinothkumar

By Staff Writer in Media News on
The Chennai Press Club (CPC) has strongly condemned the police for allegedly filing false cases against Thiruthani‑based Malaimurasu reporter Vinothkumar and attempting to imprison him. According to the CPC, Vinothkumar had gone to a quarry near Thiruthani to report on alleged illegal soil excavation beyond permitted limits after receiving public inputs. During reporting, former AIADMK panchayat union president Ponnusamy allegedly obstructed him, seized and smashed his mobile phone, verbally abused him, and attempted to assault him. The press club stated that when Vinothkumar approached the Thiruthani police station to lodge a complaint, police allegedly refused to accept it and instead secured a complaint from the quarry owner’s wife, summoning the journalist to the station. The CPC condemned the alleged attempt to register a false case against the reporter and demanded his immediate release, while urging authorities to act promptly on his complaint regarding assault and o

Junkee and Punkee want stories, not ‘content’

By Nigel Bowen in Media News on
Sophie Hanson has a message for journos and PRs hoping to work with Junkee or Punkee – stop sending pitches that could have gone to anyone. “Please look at our social feeds and our site to see the types of things we’re covering across Junkee and Punkee,” pleaded Hanson, who has been Head of Editorial at Junkee Media since December last year. “I cannot tell you how many completely irrelevant press releases I get. Some of them not even addressing me by name.” After half a decade working in the US, Hanson now oversees two youth media mastheads with related but distinct identities. Junkee remains focused on thoughtful pop culture coverage across film, music, TV and video games. Meanwhile, Punkee has moved away from its reality-TV associations and towards fashion, beauty, lifestyle, mental health and self-care. Hanson advises journos and PRs to understand which masthead they are pitching, explain how the story will work on social media, and provide a compelling angle.
