PUWJ angered over treatment at NDA event
By Staff Writer in Media News on Monday, 01st December 2025 at 9:06pm
PUWJ said that despite being invited to cover the ceremony, journalists were abruptly moved to a seating area from where they could not photograph or record the address of the Reviewing Officer, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. The union has submitted a formal complaint seeking a detailed inquiry into the incident.
Journalists also objected to a remark by an officer who allegedly dismissed previous media coverage as a flop show. PUWJ called the comment baseless and pointed out that earlier NDA events had consistently received strong coverage across print, television, digital platforms and social media. They highlighted the passing out of the first batch of women cadets earlier this year, which had drawn worldwide attention.
“Such behaviour undermines the role and responsibility of the press,” PUWJ president Brijmohan Patil said in the complaint, as quoted by The Free Press Journal.

Bengaluru police have arrested the editor of a local Kannada tabloid for allegedly cheating a woman by promising her a post in a non-existent State press council.
According to The Hindu, The Govindaraja Nagar police picked up the accused, Shivakumar T. Nagara Navile, from Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday, moments before he was to board a flight to Oman for an event.
The arrest followed a complaint by Meenakshi B., who alleged that Shivakumar posed as president of a so-called “State press council” and offered her the position of “State president for women journalist council”. He allegedly collected more than Rs 50,000 from her to facilitate her travel to Singapore for the 2024 Vishishta Kannada Habba programmes.
Police said Shivakumar later sought more money under the pretext of organising the event. Believing him, the complainant reportedly paid Rs 25 lakh over several transactions, borrowing from relatives and friends and even pawning her gold.

The Winter Session of Parliament begins on Monday under the shadow of an Opposition united on the demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, warning that it might stall proceedings if the government does not agree.
Hot off the Press
It is learnt that the government told the Opposition that it would get back to them on the SIR issue, even as it proposed a discussion on Vande Mataram. The negotiations between the two sides first took place at an all-party meeting and then during the meetings of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, reported Manoj CG and Liz Mathew for The Indian Express.
Earlier in the day, the Opposition parties put up a united front at the all-party meeting, demanding discussions on SIR and the recent blast in Delhi in the context of national security, among other things. The all-party meeting also saw the Opposition de

Journalist's House Demolished in Jammu; PDP, CPI(M) Voice Strong Objections
By Staff Writer in Media News on Monday, 01st December 2025 at 3:06pm
A Jammu Development Authority (JDA) team, accompanied by police, reportedly demolished journalist Arfaz Daing’s house in Narwal on November 27, 2025, triggering accusations of selective enforcement from political leaders and lawyers.
While officials confirmed the operation, Daing claimed he had not received any prior demolition notice.
Daing said this was the second time his home had been torn down. His earlier house in Bathindi was demolished, forcing him to move to his parents’ residence.
Describing the latest action as a “selective drive,” he questioned why only his four-decade-old house was targeted. He added that he had requested more time from the JDA team but was refused.
A source told The Hindu stated that lawyers Sheikh Shakeel and Zulkarnain Choudhary condemned the demolition, noting that the High Court had directed authorities to begin with major encroachments. Political leaders Waheed-ur-Rehman Para and M.Y. Tarigami also expressed conc
