Lisa Davies returns to where it all started

Davies resigned from The Sydney Morning Herald at the end of 2021 after five years as editor and nearly a decade at the masthead.
She replaces Emma Cowdroy who has stepped down from the chief executive position due to family commitments, but will stay on in a senior position.
Davies said she was proud to return to where she started her journalism career and also paid tribute to the outgoing Cowdroy.

There's a particular kind of audacity in proposing rules that could silence independent voices while simultaneously insisting they're designed to protect the public. That's precisely the tension at the heart of the draft Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Second Amendment Rules, 2026 and on April 11, six of India's most prominent journalist bodies gathered at the Press Club of India to call it out, loudly and collectively.
The joint meeting brought together the PCI, DIGIPUB, Editors' Guild of India, Indian Women's Press Corp, Network of Women in Media and the Delhi Union of Journalists: a coalition that doesn't assemble lightly. When it does, you pay attention. Their unanimous demand: the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology must withdraw these draft rules entirely. Not amend them. Not soften them. Withdraw them.

Delhi police exam scam uncovered
Delhi Police’s crime branch has dismantled a criminal network allegedly responsible for compromising the integrity of recruitment examinations for positions in Delhi Police, among others.
Over 16 arrests have been made, including two police officers, sources said. One of them was posted at the IGI Airport police station, a senior airport cop confirmed.
The role of former policemen has also surfaced. Multiple suspects were produced in court and taken on remand, documents confirmed. Some of the accused were recently granted bail after exchanges in court.
The operation, which has been a guarded secret for over two months, has exposed sprawling corruption spanning multiple states, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan, writes Raj Shekhar Jha for The Times of India.

Assam CM loses temper at Lallantop reporter

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lost his temper during an interaction with a reporter from Lallantop who questioned him over his alleged use of abusive language.
During the exchange, the reporter raised concerns about Sarma’s “unparliamentary” remarks. The Chief Minister reacted sharply, defending his choice of words and saying, “My language is Lallantop,” India Today reported.
The reporter responded that Lallantop did not require his certificate, which further escalated the exchange.
Sarma then refused to continue the conversation and questioned why such queries were being raised, stating that he did not wish to speak further. The incident has since gained traction on social media.
Journalist robbed of Rs 10 lakh, three arrested

A 50-year-old journalist, Shipa Vasant Thakkar, was allegedly robbed of cash and valuables worth over Rs 10 lakh while shifting her residence from Titwala to Durgamata Nagar near Nevali Naka. The accused reportedly took advantage of the move to steal the items.
Police launched an investigation following the complaint and traced the suspects. Three individuals have been arrested.
The total value of the stolen items is estimated at over Rs 10 lakh, according to Newsband.

Akhil Kumar Mishra, Additional Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Central Bureau of Communication, visited Fakir Mohan University on March 9 and interacted with students of the Journalism and Mass Communication department. The session was held on the theme “From Policy to Public: The Power of Everyday Communication in Building Viksit Bharat.”
Mishra said the media must act as a responsible partner in the country’s development process.
