Upfront: CGT chill warning, EU deal on edge, Defence stocks running low.

By Staff Writers in Media News on
Business warns Labor’s CGT push could chill investment A widening rift has opened between the government and major employers over proposed capital gains tax changes, with business groups urging Labor to narrow any reforms to housing and WA’s Premier Roger Cook warning the plan could deter foreign capital in the mining sector. The dispute matters because it goes to the heart of Labor’s economic pitch—balancing revenue and fairness against investment confidence—while setting up a sharper political fight with the Coalition and industry ahead of legislation. What happens when journalism’s career ladder collapses?

By Nigel Bowen in Media News on
For generations, aspiring journalists were told there was a path to somewhat secure full-time employment. Not an easy path by any means and not one readily available to those unable to spend significant time doing unpaid internships and then working in atrociously paid entry-level positions. Nonetheless, there was a well-trodden path. Get a degree, do internships while and immediately after studying, freelance, develop a portfolio, maybe do some corporate work, maybe move to a regional area, land an entry-level full-time job, then start inching your way up the greasy pole. Youth-media mastheads that once gave young writers a start have shrunk or been shuttered.    For David Allen, Patrick Lenton and Jackson Langford, the crisis is not abstract. Each has lived through a different version of it. A

According to police sources, the accused had been living alone at his Coimbatore residence while his wife was at her native place for postnatal care. They allege that he used his acquaintance with the girl’s family to lure the minor to his residence last week and sexually assaulted her. The girl escaped and informed her parents, who then approached the police. An officer at Pothanur Police Station confirmed to Influencing India that the journalist was arrested under the POCSO Act. “The case is under investigation by senior officers,” the official sai
