At 99, Lalbiakthanga Pachuau may no longer spend his days in a newsroom as he once did, but journalism remains woven into his daily life. He reads newspapers, watches the news and still tests his grandchildren on current affairs. His grandson Reuben Lalrenrua now helps him edit Zoram Tlangau, the Mizo-language newspaper Pachuau founded more than half a century ago. “He reads the newspapers, he reads the Bible every day and watches the news,” his granddaughter Rose Pachuau said. “He questions us. The Australian Financial Review’s Edmund Tadros and Hannah Wootton have been crowned ‘Journalists of the Year’ at the 2026 Kennedy Foundation Awards, held on Friday evening at Royal Randwick in Sydney.  The duo won the award for their reporting on the KPMG Audit Leaks Scandal. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Western Australian journalist, editor and publisher Bret Christian OAM.  The Sydney Morning Herald picked up five awards: Outstanding Cartoon, Outstanding Sport Reporting, Outstanding Three Headlines, Outstanding Feature Writing and Outstanding News Photography.  There were also wins for The Daily Telegraph, News24, Seven Network, ABC and 2GB. In Assam, senior journalist Niranjan Agarwala, 68, a long‑time member of the Sonitpur Journalists’ Union, passed away at a private nursing home in Tezpur on Sunday. Named Khabardani, the centre on M.G. Marg offers newspapers and magazines in English, Nepali and Hindi free of charge around the clock.
