The blocking of Reuters and Reuters World handles on X has triggered a fresh war of words between the social media platform and govt, with both sides blaming each other. Social media company X on Tuesday accused the Union government of ordering it to block 2,355 accounts, including of international news agency Reuters, prompting the ministry of electronics and IT to hit back with claims that no “fresh blocking orders” were issued and that X “unnecessarily exploited technicalities” to delay restoring the news agency’s accounts.

The exchange — in the form of statements, first by X’s Global Government Affairs account and then by a statement from the ministry of electronics and information technology (Meity) — represents a rare public flashpoint in an ongoing battle between the two over content regulation that is simultaneously playing out in the Karnat
Inside Vinay Sarawagi’s Blueprint to Reboot Global Media
By Abdul Nishad in Media News on Wednesday, 09th July 2025 at 2:57pm
Big Tech has changed how the world consumes content and who profits from it. For traditional media companies, shrinking newsrooms and falling revenues are just the surface of a deeper crisis: the urgent need for speed, scale and skills they can no longer build alone.
Veteran journalist Vinay Sarawagi believes he has an answer. After two decades inside India’s biggest newsrooms, from India Today and Thomson Reuters to Network18 and The Times of India, Sarawagi has launched The Media GCC, a sector-focused capability center that he says can give mid-sized media companies a fighting chance.
His pitch is blunt: transform or be transformed by Big Tech.
India’s Global Capability Centers, once seen as low-cost back offices, have evolved into sophisticated transformation hubs. More than 1,700 companies now run nearly 3,000 GCCs in India, employing around two million professionals in roles spanning AI, engineering, research and design. Once a quiet backbone for banking and aerospace,
