Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy on Sunday called for a globally coordinated policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence in journalism, stressing that ethical safeguards are essential to protect public trust. She was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 9th National Media Conclave held at the KIMS Auditorium. Padhy said AI can strengthen newsrooms but must operate under strict human oversight. Transparency about AI-generated content, she noted, is crucial as technological shifts blur traditional boundaries in the media ecosystem. Following the incident, the Puducherry Print and Journalist Association lodged a complaint at the Villianur police station. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against three party members, including Seeman, under Sections 296(b) for obscene acts, 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, and 351(2) for criminal intimidation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, The News Minute reported. Influencing earlier reported that the Chennai Press Club condemned the incident and urged the Puducherry Police to take action against Seeman for allegedly misbehaving with a journalist. It also called for strict action against NTK workers who reportedly manhandled media personnel during the press interaction.

The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh of Mandola village in Charkhi Dadri and Gaurav Taneja of Rohtak. The incident took place on November 22, when a male journalist was allegedly beaten up by a group of men while covering a rave party raid conducted by the Gurugram Police on Saturday morning. Her remarks come after she attended a three-day national workshop in Bengaluru organised by UNESCO, the Indian Journalists Union and the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. The deceased has been identified as Ritumoni Roy, who was supposed to get married on December 5. Preparations for the ceremony were reportedly underway. According to police, Roy had attended a pre-wedding function at a friend’s residence on Sunday evening before returning to her office later that night. She is suspected to have died by suicide.
