The Chennai Press Club (CPC), in association with Vooki, distributed raincoats to journalists on Saturday, November 22. Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun and Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran handed over the raincoats in the presence of senior journalists N. Ram, Director, THG Publishing Private Limited, and R. R. Gopal, Editor of Nakkeeran. A total of 500 journalists received raincoats, said Sundara Bharathi, vice-president of CPC, while speaking to Influencing. She added that this was the first such initiative carried out. The efforts of the Club were commended by the dignitaries present. Chennai Press Club president Suresh Vethanayagam and general secretary Haseef Mohammed, along with other office bearers and members, were also present.

A journalist’s phone was allegedly hacked in Hyderabad on Sunday, triggering a wider breach of WhatsApp groups operated by public relations officers of state Ministers. The incident has raised serious concerns about digital security and the vulnerability of official communication channels. According to Telangana Today, the attack began when cybercriminals posing as representatives of the State Bank of India (SBI) sent an APK file to the journalist, claiming it was for Aadhaar update services. Once the journalist unknowingly interacted with the malicious file, the hackers gained access to his WhatsApp account and contacts. Using the compromised account, the attackers forwarded the same APK file to multiple WhatsApp groups linked to Ministers, including one associated with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s team. A male journalist was allegedly beaten up by a group of men while he was on duty covering a rave party raid conducted by Gurugram Police on November 22,  Saturday morning. Among the assaulters was Sukhwinder Sangvan, the prime accused in the Sonali Phogat murder case. In his FIR, the journalist stated that he and his cameraperson had accompanied the Gurugram Police during the raid on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. According to him, the police had received information that a rave party was being organised at a local café. While the journalist was attempting to film the police action, Sukhwinder Sangvan allegedly attacked him. The journalist was beaten, and the police complaint was later converted into an FIR at Sector 50 police station in Gurugram, Times Now reported.

An FIR has been registered against retired IAS officer Hitesh Dev Sarma for allegedly threatening a journalist over a report related to a protest involving his son, who serves in the police force. According to Hindustan Times, a case was filed at Pathshala police station under Sections 351(2) for criminal intimidation and death threat, 352 for intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace, and 296 for obscene acts in a public place under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Sarma, who retired as the state coordinator of the National Register of Citizens in Assam in 2022, is accused of calling journalist Rana Deka of NKTV on Thursday and objecting to the channel’s coverage of the October 15 violence outside Baksa district jail. The incident occurred when the police were shifting five persons arrested in connection with singer Zubeen Garg’s death following a court order. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Mumbai has approved a major restructuring plan by , the parent company of the Times of India group. The plan involves separating the company’s core newspaper business from its other ventures. As part of the restructuring, a new wholly owned subsidiary, Times Horizon, has been created to house all non-publishing businesses. The two-member NCLT bench reviewed and cleared the scheme of arrangement, noting that it complies with the provisions of the Companies Act. According to BMI, The Times Group said the restructuring aims to give sharper management focus to both segments, allowing the traditional publishing business and the rapidly expanding non-publishing portfolio to operate with strategies suited to their specific needs.
