ABC MD hits back at critics who suggest Four Corners tarnished with same brush as BBC’s Panorama
By Tony Bosworth in Media News on Thursday, 13th November 2025 at 3:10pm
After news reports claiming the BBC’s flagship Panorama news program aired misleadingly spliced-together sections of a Donald Trump speech in January 2021 that ultimately led to a violent assault on Washington's Capitol building, The Australian on Tuesday seemed to pour flames on the fire somewhat closer to home.
Hugh Marks.
In a story by News Corp’s Thomas Henry which appeared in the print editor of The Australian on Tuesday, the journalist wrote: "Revelations the ABC’s Four Corners similarly edited the address have fueled concerns over the public broadcaster’s ability to meet its own impartiality standards.”
Undoubtedly in response to that - and other negative comments and quotes in The Oz about the ABC's handling of Gaza war reporting and other issues - the ABC’s Managing Director, Hugh Marks, has come out fighting.
“Comparing the BBC’s Panorama program to the ABC’s Four Corners program is opportunistic and false,” said Marks on Wednesday afternoon, and

PCI condemns Bangladesh official’s remarks against Indian journos
By Staff Writer in Media News on Thursday, 13th November 2025 at 2:14pm
The Press Club of India (PCI) has strongly condemned comments made by Shafiqul Alam, official spokesperson of the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s government, who referred to reporters from India and abroad as “Western journalists and their Indian bootlicking counterparts.”
In a Facebook post on November 11, 2025, Alam made the remarks while referring to journalists who recently interviewed former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The PCI said such comments were “especially reprehensible,” noting that Alam himself is a former journalist. “To describe professionals from responsible media outlets pursuing a genuine news story as ‘bootlicking’ journalists is certainly not expected from a person in a responsible position,” the PCI stated.
The organisation called on Alam to withdraw his remarks and issue a public apology, emphasising that such language undermines journalistic dignity and the spirit of press freedom.

THE BRIEF: Electric moment
By Tony Bosworth in Media News on Thursday, 13th November 2025 at 6:13am
It's all about Net Zero today and whether the Liberals will announce they are doing away with the aspiration by 2050 to get to a point where the country reaches the state in which the greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere are balanced by removal out of the atmosphere. Typically this could be done - in theory - by switching as much as possible over to electric power which in turn is produced by non-fossil fuels. Oh, and growing more carbon-sucking trees. Coalition partners the Nationals have already dumped any aims along those lines, at least by a set date, and the Liberals are split. The smart money is on them also dumping net zero today - but we shall see what form that takes.
The papers all take a look at this with The Australian turning to two of their top journos, Greg Brown and Jack Quail, to pen the main front pager ('High-energy Liberals to work without a net').
The daily national uses the picture - The Oz's by Martin Olman at Newswire - which is on pretty
