In response, field journalists, reporters, and videographers have called for a joint protest involving multiple media associations. Leaders of the South Indian Journalists Union, including President Chandrika and General Secretary Kathiravan, reached out to Chennai Press Club President Suresh and General Secretary Hasif to inform them about the proposed demonstration. Senior journalist and The Wire Editor Seema Chishti has said Indian media is at a “critical juncture” and stressed the growing importance of small and independent media outlets, according to The Hindu. Delivering the 25th N. Narendran Memorial Lecture, Chishti argued that “big media is not willing to hear small voices” and called for collaboration and joint investigations among independent organisations. She emphasised that preserving “good information” is essential for democracy, warning against the rise of propaganda and what she described as “error 404 journalism”, where older critical stories are deliberately removed. The Goa government has increased the monthly pension for eligible journalists from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 with immediate effect. The revision was made through an amendment to the Goa State Working Journalist Welfare Scheme 2021-22. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the hike while presenting the State Budget 2026-27. Under the revised scheme, both pensioners and family pensioners will receive Rs 15,000 per month. The government said the move aims to strengthen welfare support for media professionals.
