About Us

The Charcot Marie Tooth Association Australia Inc (CMTAA) began as a support group in 1988, then was incorporated in 1990 as a Registered Charity. The motivation to establish CMTAA was to meet the need for people with CMT to communicate with each other and provide mutual encouragement. We are: > Engaging with people who have CMT, their families, carers and the community. This is done via National Office contact, face to face support gatherings, holding our annual National Conference, social media – Facebook and Instagram, publishing our Newsletter three times a year and this website. > Engaging with Medical and Allied Health Professionals in every State to raise their awareness of the condition, and to inform them of options they can assist their patients with to enhance their quality of life. > Using data compiled for the Reducing the Health Burden of Charcot-Marie-Tooth in Australia Report to raise awareness with Members of Parliament, and educate them about the need for assistance for those who have CMT to access services they need to enhance their quality of life. > Creating Research Grants and attracting applications to fund research into CMT, plus continuous engagement with the research community. > Acknowledging and promoting September: International Awareness Month for CMT. WE AIM TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH CMT.
