Four Wheel Drive Queensland (4WD Qld) was formed in 1976 when members from various four wheel drive clubs across the State got together in an effort to unite the voice of four wheel drivers in promoting recreational four wheel driving. In 2012, 4WD Qld membership exceeds 60 Clubs accounting for approximately 4000 4WD club members. Participation in the management of 4WD Qld is only available to financial club members. Main areas of focus for 4WD Qld include driver training, recreational access to land, environmental education, sustainable land management strategies, involvement in community consultation, public liability, insurance for clubs and comprehensive 4WD insurance for club members. 4WD Qld is also a registered training organisation that delivers a nationally accredited driver awareness program in conjunction with the certified trainers in clubs and in accordance with the new Australian quality training framework this training is nationally recognised and is only available through affiliated clubs for their financial club members.
