About Us

Pretty Shady takes a fresh approach to sun protection, empowering young Australians to be part of the generation that stops skin cancer, one summer at a time. Skin cancer is the most common cancer among young Australians, but one of the most preventable. Pretty Shady is about getting young Aussies thinking about their skin cancer risk, but also providing them with ways to protect themselves that fit in with their lifestyle. Being Pretty Shady is about protecting your skin without compromising the fun of summer. Young people can protect themselves from skin cancer by taking 5 positive actions – seeking shade, covering up, wearing a hat, wearing sunglasses, and using and reapplying sunscreen. By doing these five things every summer, Gen Y could be the generation that puts a stop to skin cancer, as we know it. The rate of skin cancer in Australia is the highest in the world. In fact, 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer at some point in their lives. Pretty Shady aims to educate young Australians about sun safety with the help of three campaign ambassadors and five products – a beach umbrella, a hat, sunglasses, a t-shirts and sunscreen. Pretty Shady takes a different approach to sun safety by making it something to talk about and share. Like it, win it, wear it, share it and be part of the #PrettyShady movement.
