Mob on the Move Hits Strong Stride on Day 10: Sydney Community Steps Up for Redfern Jarjum College's First Nations Education

Challenge Now at $25,787 Raised and 320 Participants - Donate Today to Empower Culturally Safe Learning for Indigenous Kids

Sydney, NSW - February 24, 2026 - Ten days into its launch on February 15, the inaugural Mob on the Move steps challenge is building impressive momentum, with 320 walkers across 29 teams tracking activity and raising $25,787 for Redfern Jarjum College. Inspired by Sydney's Traditional Custodians, this month-long initiative (through March 15) blends movement, cultural education via digital Indigenous story badges, and philanthropy to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children's education.

Participants from corporate, school, and community teams are setting goals—walking, running, riding, or swimming—with total distance already at 2,660 km. All funds directly fuel Jarjum's essential wrap-around services: daily transport and meals, low student-to-teacher ratios, on-site paediatric care, speech/hearing therapy, counselling, family support, Aboriginal-led cultural programs in art, music, dance, and storytelling, uniforms, excursions, and sports.

In a nurturing, Jesuit-rooted environment, Jarjum helps Redfern-area children facing complex challenges build confidence, embrace heritage, and transition to mainstream schooling—breaking disadvantage cycles and fostering bright futures.

"Mob on the Move reminds us that small actions—like a walk or a donation—can create big change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids," said Katherine Zerounian, Principal of Redfern Jarjum College. "Seeing the community respond so warmly in the opening days fills us with hope. Every contribution fuels Jarjum's holistic approach, giving children the confidence, cultural pride, and opportunities they deserve. Join us today—your support means the world to these young Jarjum's futures."

With the challenge well underway, the focus is on amplifying donations to push toward even greater impact—no movement required. Tax-deductible gifts can be made directly to individual participants, teams, or the general fund via the platform.

Redfern Jarjum College delivers holistic, culturally safe primary education, addressing barriers to ensure Indigenous children succeed with pride and potential.
